I was interests in the story but it did move slowly at times. The author seemed to spend a long time describing elements which weren't really all that crucial to the story
The story was of our hero growing up in pure communism and deep poverty and how luck and hard work took him beyond his roots...about having a few choice goals and challenges and a huge work ethic.
I am retire, love to read
Everything in the book is great. His family principles, the love for his parents and brothers. The love and respect for his original country. The honesty and respect for US. The admiration for his teachers. The dedication for ballet. He is an spiration person in all the way.
All the characters were good
No, I want to enjoy the book, I took my time.
I will give this book to the University students to learn about Mao, difficult times, respect for the parents, respect for they countries.
I enjoyed listening to Mao's Last Dancer. this book is beautifully written. There were tearful moments and there were funny ones also.
As Americans, we often take for granted the freedom and luxuries we have. Mao's Last Dancer depicts the hardship during communist China while Li was growing up. Yet, Li's story gives us that through perseverance, hope and love one can overcome roadblocks. He shared visions of success to become a dancer someday. He admitted failures as well.
There were moments in the story when it felt heartwtenching of the events that took place in Li's early life. On the other hand, I laughed at some parts of the atory.
Paul English, the narrator, performed very, very well. He varied his tonality to different characters. Paul was able to act out emotions and the pronunciation of words in Chinese and French were clear.
I wouldn't mind listening to this audio book again.
