im enjoying having a variety of King to listen to with it being short stories. this will make it easy to listen to one genre, take a break, and come back to it later if I want. great to have a variety of readers too. so far im up to Mare Winingham's story (sp?), she has a great voice for reading.
will fill in more later after I hear more stories
Not all stories were great but the narration and writing made them entertaining. The story about the stationary bike was particularly bad. Overall Worth a listen.
I have just finished listening to the stories in this book (well I couldn't finshi the last story) and I am patting myself on my back celebrating my devoting to finish reading some 15 hours of (for the most part) really lousy stories. With the exception of the Stand, Salem's Lot & a handful of a few other short stories, I have always finish Stephen King's stories feeling disappointed; sometimes really good stories falling short of a terrific ending; the worst feeling that the story just seems to end abruptly and i wonder if i perhaps fell asleep (when I hadn't).
The two fairly decent stories (Willa and the one about a psycharitist working with a patient with severe OCD issues) were examples of how good Stephen King can be but the other stories were just too painful to be worth the time investment.
Thank you for reading my review.
....being a huge fan of Stephen King I always get excited to read his collections of short stories....this collection was great!!! I really loved 'N.' which totally creeped me out and had me thinking about my small OCD issues and trying to rationalize it all....'The New York Times At A Discount Price' is probably my favorite.....it is a very short story but it really has a touching side to it and it just really got to my heart. The last story 'A Very Tight Place' just basically GROSSED ME OUT!!!!....I have read so many of Stephen's books so I'm very used to his gross-out style.....BUT...this one made me so sick I was on the verge of pucking thru the whole story.....OMG....just sooooooo nasty!!!.......all in all I felt it was a great book with a bit of yuck in it!!!....
This is my first audible book ever, love Stephen King, never thought I would like someone reading to me. The stories definitely hold your attention but not all of them are as twisted as I expected or usually enjoy of his writing. I would certainly recommend this to friends and family.
Mr. King did not disappoint. I enjoy his stories anyway but REALLY enjoyed the narrators in this book. I did not like listening to the story about a rest stop just before stopping in a rest stop for the night. Mission accomplished, Mr. King!
This book was interesting. It had some good stories but the 2 that really stood out were N as well as a very tight place. Another story that was reasonable was the Gingerbread girl. The opener which was called Willa wasn't bad either. All and all not a bad audio book, enjoy
I was pretty disappointed here, although my expectations were already low. I began reading SK when I was a teenager and have re-read many of his books. I'm going to say that I thought this book was a total throw away, not worth the credit for any of the stories. I wish I had liked even one! Even the gross out story was a recycled idea from "IT"... pathetic.
