Could not stop listening to this book the entire time. Carolyn's story is courageous, heartfelt, enlightening, and most of all, shocking! I'd recommend this book to anyone. What an inspiration Jessop is, she is a true hero.
yes very informative and intriguing very well written and well read held my interest
the raw details
no i havent
it made me emotional at times hearing the hoorible things about the flds
I feel a little shock but also upset remembering my own cult past. this was hard to listen to at times, but also like therapy for me. I'm so glad she shared. I'm even more glad she found freedom.
Really enjoyed this book and the sound quality. It was a page turner. It was also very inspirational for me.
Fascinating as the story is…after the first couple of chapters the subsequent 8-15 chapters are predictable and become tedious. Even at Chapter 25 of 42 Chapters….and I have fast-forwarded at least three hours of the same ridiculous perverted lifestyle, I am still am not sure if I can tolerate the rest of the remaining verbiage. Thank goodness for Audible’s listening tools which include adjustable speeds. At 1.25x the narration is still very clear, as at the regular speed, the narration is fairly slow.
Lets see if I have the endurance to listen to this until the end.
This is the first performance by Ann Marie Lee I have heard. I will look for more books where she is the actress. She has a voice that is pleasant and easy to listen to. Certainly, if the actress were not as good as she is…listening to the entire book-FIFTEEN (15) hours of this…would be difficult. Even with the advantage of the excellent actress, I am not sure I can endure the remaining 16-17 Chapters of the book.
Nothing else.Enough nauseating information,
I am at Chapter 24 of 42. The first three chapters were fascinating. How women are raised to believe they are worthless chattel who could be beaten black and blue every day, if they dared to talk back to whatever misogynist they were assigned to marry. It is shocking how brainwashed both the women and men of this perverted cult were (are?). The backward life, debasement and abuse of women is almost hard to believe.I would have enjoyed this book much more if it were five hours instead of fifteen hours. Recommend…prospective readers wait for the ‘condensed version’.
Gripping story with great narration. This revealing and incredible insider's-story explains the internal mental conflict of so many caught under the mind control of over-bearing religions.
It is hard to believe that there is a Taliban-like community in the US. Carolyn's courage shines a light in a very dark place. I was riveted and now will support organizations that help people to flee.
I have always been interested in cults and I found this to be a very interesting inside view into the FLDS.
I enjoyed learning more about what women in the FLDS go through, although it made me angry at times. I feel so sorry for these women.
I think she did a great job narrating and brought a unique voice to the story.
Yes, it was a little long to do so but I finished quite quickly.
Yes, it is a very interesting TRUE story
She finally got out.
I really enjoyed this look into a polygamist Morman lifestyle.
