Great narration. Dr. Hopkins has a very soothing voice. I often listen to this book while going to sleep. Dalai Lama's words are very thoughtful and give great advice on being mindful as we travel throughout our journey of life.
I have listened to this book several times because there is so much to learn and new insights are gained each time. It is the refresher I go to most often.
Jeffrey Hopkins is knowledgeable, so he knows how to place emphasis appropriately. His voice is a little bit monotone, but the content is fascinating so it doesn't bother me. If I need to listen carefully, I listen at regular speed. If I am listening again after a short interval, I listen at 1.5 X speed.
Yes, but breaks for pondering the content are helpful. And I often rewind to make sure I've fully taken in a certain point.
I highly recommend this book.
I was curious about Buddhism and I bought the Kindle version of this book. I found it to be a good introduction to how a Buddhist views reality. I think the book is well written and easy to understand. However, After finishing the book, I bought the audible version and I am so glad I did! I am now on my fourth pass through the audible version and I am still learning with each pass. His Holiness goes over the main ideas repeatedly and at first this seemed a little annoying to me. However, I remained patient and persistent and I now know why he uses so much repetition. This is a very wise and humble man and the knowledge he wishes to teach us is an amazing gift. I highly recommend this book!
If your looking for a traditional 'self-help' book then keep going. This book is more about core Buddhist principles in the sense that it was more about explaining a theory then directly speaking to you. You will learn things like: People want happiness, not suffering. Lust and hatred are rooted in ignorance. The key to solving this is through meditation.
From here it keeps going. If you want a guide as to why meditation is needed here it is.
Different narrator would have certainly made significant (Positive) effect on quality...
Narrator might be a learned person, but might not be the best choice when it comes to narration....
Fire this narrator!
Mr. Hopkins-perhaps You are good writer, but keep yourself behind the desk and DO NOT record ANY books. Your voice and style of narration are not made for public listening. YOU made this book boring to death and should apology to Dalai Lama.
Didn't get there yet. I have to get hardcopy to go through.
Teachings about compassion... Very mind changing.
This is no good unless you really want to learn how to meditate. That was not my purpose.
I think, I got the message after less than ½ hour, but it just kept going on and on.
It was one of the extremely rare books that I quit long before the end. I often read even very boring books till the end but this one I just could not stand.
