I love the Lords of the Underworld series. This was no exception. The love scenes are wonderfully written and this book inparticular has a bit more action.
I can't wait for the next ...
My only issue was with the audio. I love the guy who reads these, but there were some mistakes in reading along the way. These weren't edited out. Didn't take too much away, just a bit distracting.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
Before all this new technology we all had books at home (LOL) and this is one of the books in my collection. It's sad to say my book collection is contained in a small building. I'm now trying to progress with the times and slowly transfer my collection into our amazing technical devices, so in doing this I'm getting to re-visit those books as I add them to my digital world.
If you haven't read the Lord's series then you need to get this series. It's in my Top 5. It's filled with sexy warriors that are possessed with a demon from Pandora's box. Of course these alfa men don't exactly get along with their demons and it usually gets more complicated when their female enters their life. This seires is packed with all kinds of other creatures to make it much more interesting.
In this book we have the Demon of Doubt and he falls in love with a harpie, and you know it's not that simple because a stunning discovery about the harpie's past is a BIG surprise.
Every book in this series is worth a credit in my opinion (unless it's under $10, then you have the "just buy it" rule) because this is one that you'll want to come back and re-visit from your Library.
I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and/or listening to mostly paranormal and fantasy.
I really like this series. Sabin is not one of my favorite characters and I really did not like Gwen at the beginning. I thought she was very weak. Her doubt in herself was a little annoying after a while. I like her better once she start to believe in herself. There was a lot of Anya in this book and I like the harpies.
Also, Nix from Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series makes a very brief appearance. I am wondering if we will see more of her in future books. She is one of my favorite characters.
Before I delve into my review of the story I want to quickly note that the narration in this book is excellent and very much on par with the previous stories. I loved this book. I love these books. My favorite aspect to the LOTU novels is that although there is definitely a primary character each novel is focused on Ms. Showalter brings relevant story lines in and out of the primary plot flawlessly. This is really effective in making me look forward to the next story since there isn't an abrupt ending of one story and passing of the baton to the next lord. The transition from story to story is much more organic than that, also the author does not resort to cliffhangers and abrupt unfinished endings in order to get readers to buy into the next novel. She also brings formerly featured lords and their mates back so they stay relevant and we get to hear about how they are progressing. Many series try to do this but no one does as good of a job.
The two main character Sabin and Gwen are a wonderful set of protagonists. Sabin, who is possessed of the demon doubt, is a complex character. While he has the usual alpha characteristics that seem to be so popular in contemporary hero novels it serves as a really nice foil to the concept of self-doubt. Gwen is an amazing character. Her progression to submissive captive to self-assured can hang with the lords tough girl is inspiring and engaging. I don't think I tuned out or drifted away from this story the entire time I was listening. I really like the first story in this series and each subsequent installment I have enjoyed more and more. There is no doubt that this novel is worth the credit I spent on it. I can't wait to hear.
I'm beginning to sound like a broken record with these LOTU books, but, I absolutely love this series. Book 4, like the others gives you more demon warrior romance, humor, and action. I have to note that the heroines/love interests that are emerging from these stories are equally as interesting and complex as the Lords! Additionally, the stories have begun to include more fully developed sub-stories that thread throughout each installment within the series---I'm totally a fan of that since each of the various characters have their own unique appeal. The narration is also stellar; I could listen to Max all day, which is basically what I do :-) Definitely a credit worthy purchase--plan on getting the entire series once you get started!
Believer in what you can't see
Listening to the Darkest Whisper allows me to visualize what the characters look like and how they behave as appose to just reading the book.
All the other stories in this series This series seems to be on the more serious side. It reminds me a little of J.R.Ward, Blackdagger Brotherhood series.
The harpies are my favorite they are bold and don't take anything guff from anyone.
No, there is a lot that goes on in this story and you need to listen to it in sections the first couple of times.
Very good series.
Worth time and effort. I am not disappointed. So msny udiobooks I purchase are very disappointing.... but this one is NOT.
All of the Darkeest Series
Keeps your interests going
The whole series does.
Say something about yourself!
I've loved every one of these books (outside the prequel) and this is another winner. Gena does such a great job of pulling me in from the very beginning and writing these stories so that it's hard for me to pull away and do other things. I sat on the couch the entire weekend and got through 2 full books and a novella from this series.
I'm so in love with the Lords and just can't wait to read the next one.
My only complaint with this book is that it got a bit too sappy in the end. I hope that Gena Showalter is conscious of the potential rift that could now be festering between the Lords and that she doesn't gloss over it and make everyone fine at the beginning of the next book. I get that they love each other and are brothers and all that, but the rest of the Lords have a right to be mad in this case.
Also, I haven't mentioned it before in my reviews for this series, but Max Bellmore is a fabulous narrator.
Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
If you like the previous books, this is a great addition. Don't start with this book defiently needs to be read in order. I like that the story is evolving and becoming more complicated with each book. I was so engrossed the story went by very quickly.
Others have complained that the editing was bad and that they heard Max Bellmonre request a retake, but that must have been fixed so I recommend to those folks to re-download it to have the better version in their library.
