The reader will put you to sleep. This book didn't do for me. It is boring and the reader is just terrible. Don't buy this. I could not finish the first part.
I have listened to several other Lee Child books (Jack Reacher stories) and they have all been great right from the start. This one is so slow - I cannot even finish it. I am only half way through and cannot make myself listen any longer.
I love the Reacher series. However, I missed Reacher's associates from his previous stories. He is just not as dynamic without them. There was not a love interest. The protagonists were really evil and cunning. A weakness is that I did not have or develop a relationship with any of the victims so it was not possible to garner any feelings about the characters. This seemed like a formula based story. This story was a bit long with the detailed descriptions. I love Dick Hill's narrations so it helped me get through this story.
I have never been so disappointed with an audio book. There have been times when a reader took away from the story. There have been terrific readers as well. But this one is absolutely horrible! I have honestly tried to listen to the book over and over again, but I can't get over the voice and the tone. I guess I'll have to read the book myself

I have read all the Reacher books and really like Lee Child's work. As with the whole Reacher series, I have trouble setting them down. On several occasions, my wife has come out to the car to find out why I have not come into the house yet. I can't wait for the next Reacher novel. My office is 62 mile from my house, I listen to a lot of books in the car. The Reacher stuff has been great, I wish there were more.
Just recently started listening to books. What a great way to get into them! This book gets you from Chapter 1 and keeps you going right up to the end with a great feeling of satisfaction! Definitely looking forward to reading (listening to) some of the other Reacher novels.
This book is a real blast, especially after that last yawner where Reacher's out west fighting a fat born-again nutcase. Great pacing, good antagonists--My only wish is that Reacher would've called Naegele when things got tight. When Francis Naegele and Reacher are together, no baddies are safe!! Just LOVE this book and can't wait for the next Reacher novel.
I can't wait for a new Reacher book to come out. It's like my guilty pleasure, where I can travel around the globe as one of the baddest dudes on the planet, and not care about a thing. Jack Reacher is just about the most fun character I get to listen to when driving around in LA traffic.
Unfortunately, this book was not as strong as I would have liked. The plot felt a little weak throughout the whole story, and the character development around Reacher felt a little contrived. There's always that moment in a Reacher book where it's the tipping point for Reacher and you know he's about to whoop some behind. That moment kind of showed a little weakly and then was over in just a short amount of time. The ending was also very, very weak for me. It was like lighting a huge firecracker, waiting for the huge explosion, just to hear a tiny crack, and see a tiny puff of smoke.
It's still worth listening to, because come on, it's Jack Reacher, but it's not one of his best.
Great characters, great plot, great action, but I'm afraid that technically Mr. Child is not a very good writer.I have a problem with his propensity for over description. One thing I know is that if the scene starts with entering a room, I have at least five minutes to step out because I know that the author will describe every item in the room, including the ashtrays. It's a bit annoying. One other fault is his use of repetition. At one point I thought I would get sick if I heard "I am not allowed to volunteer information" one more time, then he did it three more times. Finally, I kind of like a clean end. Not wanting to spoil it for others, I won't be specific, but suuffice it to say that there was one very big thread left unexplained at the end. I still like the book, but as a writer, Mr. Child leaves a lot to be desired.
Probably one of the better Jack Reacher books. It's in first person, which is rare for Lee Child. But it's a solid book, definately one of the better Jack Reacher books, and I'm a big fan!
