I'm an attorney and found it too unrealistic. How can a lawyer take on a case that goes on for months with little or no hope of getting paid?
I did suspend reality and found it a fun story. though a little predictable. I wouldn't recommend it.
Kate Wilhelm is a new author for me and I really enjoyed the story. I have now ordered several of her books and will "read" them as time permits. I was raised in Oregon, and my only complaint is that the reader mispronounced several words that are unique to the Pacific Northwest. She really needs to check into the proper pronunciation of Spokane and Willamette as well as a few other words. I found it distracting at those points in the story. I am surprised that the author as well as Blackstone Publishing has not taken steps to make sure this does not happen. Otherwise, I found the story compelling and I was quite absorbed from beginning to end.
I found this to be a good "who done it" novel. Plenty of suspense and good narratives. It kept my attention. I listen to books while cleaning house, and this one made me want to keep cleaning!!
This legal "thriller" is shallow but entertaining. The characters are neither particularly unique nor well-developed, yet the plot does keep moving along at a fair pace. The Native American aspect is interesting, but is a minor element. Two very different peripheral female characters are described in a context of pink, decked out in pink. What went dry -- color palette or imagination? It's a good airplane/hotel book; you won't feel terribly bad if you leave it on the plane...
This is definitely no "Kane and Abel". In fact I will go as far as to say that this has been my biggest disappointment in 6 months at audible.com. After almost 5 hours of listening I still couldn't keep the main characters straight in my mind.....mostly because I couldn't have cared less about them. Fell asleep during the first sixty minutes (and innumerable other times) and didn't bother reading part 2 to see how it ended.
Plot is very slow. Reader is very slow. I tried to give this book a chance, thinking it HAD to improve but half way through part two, I cut my losses and gave up. Wasn't interesting enough to make me care how it turned out.
