First, Ben Kingsley is an absolute pleasure and joy to listen to and for a work as long as this, delivers a flawless performance. I never tired of hearing him, nor this story. Following that, I looked forward to every moment of 'down time' (folding laundry, doing dishes, driving, walking my dogs) where I could absorb more of this incredible autobiography! It is so well written and inspiring on so many levels!
The book itself and the performance are great but this is a book that is better read than listening to. Much of the content might be lost since most people cannot listen to the entire book in one sitting.
Yogananda is a very inspiring figure and guru. I purchased the audiobook to listen to in the car and as others say in their reviews the book is calming and pleasant. I own the printed book and have read it firsthand so the audio book is more of a complimentary listen while I drive.
Ben Kingsley does an excellent job reading this book. He is a professional and does not drone through the reading. Much of the content is heartfelt and you can hear his enjoyment throughout. Don't listen to the other reviews about the reading, he does an excellent job. The Kingsley version is much better to listen to than the other.. All the inflections are correct and there is emotion in the words as Ben reads them. If you cannot read the book, this version is the next best thing.
As indicated by the title the book is evhaustively informative about the Yogi's life. I wanted more information on the meditative practice itself.
Quite simply, a tour de force. Humility, wisdom and compassion underscore the message lovingly conveyed by this great sage of the 20th century. The sensitive narration by Kingsley is also fittingly sublime. A spiritual compass to collectively raise our awareness of who we truly are. A must-read for our troubled world. Om Kriya Babaji Nama Aum.
An incredible life and an unforgettable tale about a man who carried the message of his faith to a new world. I will listen to this book again!
