I read this book about 35 years ago and it made a big impression on me. My daughter read it about 10 years ago and she says it changed her life. It has the feeling of truth to it and can make one believe in miracles even if you haven't experienced one.
Ben Kingsly does a great job reading it and Yogananda's words have inspired me all over again. I give it the highest rating!
Hey Audible, don't raise prices and I promise to buy lots more books.
Okay, you want balance, I’ll give you balance. This is Horse-pucky! Yogananda had/has a lot of followers. I cannot help but think many of them are here in this forum writing reviews. Back in the seventies I tried reading this book. Some might say I was not ready for it because it seemed like so much nonsense. I wound up going to India, searching and following another renowned guru who turned out to be a pedophile and hypocrite in so many other ways.
I believe in much of what these guys have to say. I have no other way to reconcile spirituality, science and my own reality. I would just like to shoot all the messengers out there, that’s all.
Someone once said: “if you meet the Buddha along the road, kill him.” Oh! I think I just got it. This actually comes from an old koan attributed to Zen Master Linji, not too shabby a guy himself. And obviously this was not meant to be taken literally but hey, were all the monsters in this book meant to be taken literally? Come on.
I would have given this review 1 Star but then you might have thought I was some kind of nut case and not read this far. If you have read this far you may still think I am nut case but at least you read the review.
Peace, brothers and sisters. Follow your heart not some dude.
Paramahansa Yogananda is a compelling story teller. The spiritual experiences he describes about the modern Hindu saints are amazing. Ben Kingsley did a great performance conveying the author's message.
I'm Trying to see the world with my ears.
This is an absolutely fascinating book!. most beautifully written It offers a theory of the workings of the universe which unlike many others has been tested and proved right by many ancient seers and modern seekers of truth, Here many religious dogmas and new age "mysticisms" lose their grip on the open discriminative mind. Read and Think!!!
Thank You Paramahansa Yogananda...
This is a book you will listen to over and over. The story is compelling and the teachings of Yogananda are universal. Ben Kingsley's reading is perfect.
To hear a yogi tell about his own, as well as his masters, and their master's personal spiritual experiences is amazing. However, the thing that makes this book so life transforming, is that you can sign up to receive lessons to learn how to do what they have done. The Kriya yoga, that he talks about in the book, when practiced literally changes you as a person. The highest truth I have found in this life.
Paramahansa Yogananda, because he lets each of us know that we can do what he did.
Nothing that I can see.
It made me laugh, cry, and rejoice. I read it almost straight through without stopping, then called the Self-Realization Fellowship organization to order the lessons immediately.
one of the most inspiring book of all times.Thank you audible for having this in your collection. Thank you Ben Kingsley for putting life into this audio book. Petals to the feet of yogananda paramahamsa ji. unmatched clarity of thoughts translating into words. Thanks Marc Benioff for recommending this book to the wider world. Thanks Steve Jobs for inspiring him to do so.
