One star for the plot and one because I did want to see how it ended. However, the story was melodramatic w/ too much detail about common sense activity. Many inaccuracies esp. in the medical area.
The best thrillker in many years! Morrell puts you in his car and heads down and road filled with trwists and turns. He never leaves the road, and he never slows down. Fantastic!
The Protector is one of those books that grabs your undivided attention from the start. It is a "page turner" except of course, it is audio. The characters stay in trouble from the first page to the last and it gets a bit redundant after awhile, but if you enjoy action with "no bars held"...you will love this one.
I'm not continuing with this book after the first disk because the narrator was putting me to sleep ... I might go back to it later, but very doubtful.
The speaker was so slow that I could not listen to it at all after 10 minutes. I tried to increase the speed but it didn't help. I've listened to many audiobooks and this is the first I had to stop for slow narration. I very seldom give this low of a rating.
This book hooked me in the first five minutes and kept me on edge for the whole book. It was action packed and thrilling. This was also a top rated book for me because the author managed a great story without any foul language. I've always been a fan of certain authors who can manage this and when I listen to a book filled with foul language I don't usually listen to another book by that author. I will definitely try another by Mr. Morrell. If you like good mysteries with suspense and new twists and turns throughout, this is a book for you.
The narrator's voice was so deep during most of the recording it make James Earl Jones voice sound like a tenor. Very poor control of the technical production of the recording. The story was average.
FORTY SOMETHING THUG FOR HIRE WHO ENJOYS A GOOD BOOK.
LET ME TELL YOU, I'M A FAN OF DAVID MORRELL. WHEN I'M LOOKING FOR STORIES WITH STRONG ACTION AND TOUGH MALE LEADS HE IS USUALLY A SOLID CONTENDER. AND THE PROTECTOR SEEMED LIKE A SOLID BUY. AND FOR THE MOST PART IT DOES DELIVER ON THE FRONTS OF ACTION AND A GREAT LEAD CHARACTER. BUT - MAN - CAN THIS STORY USE SOME EDITING. IT SEEMS TO GO ON AND ON AND ON. IF I WASN'T A DIE HARD FAN I PROBABLY COULD HAVE HIT THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON AND SKIPPED A FEW CHAPTERS AND NOT HAVE MISSED ANYTHING EXCEPT SOME VERY LONG - DRAWN OUT- SEQUENCES OF THE CHARACTER ESCAPING ONE PITFALL AFTER ANOTHER. AS FAR AS THE NARRATOR, STEFAN RUDNICKI, HE DID AN ADMIRABLE JOB WITH THE MATERIAL. HIS VOICES FOR THE DIFFERENT CHARACTERS WORKED WELL; BUT THERE WERE SOME INSTANCES WHERE THE EMOTION OF THE READING SEEMED FLAT. AN OKAY EFFORT. I'VE READ AND HEARD BETTER BY MORRELL AND RUDNICKI.
Frankly, I can't rate the quality of the story because I listened to the first hour in different environments where I normally listen and gave up. The audio quality is terrible and, no offense to Mr. Rudnicki, but his voice is so low that with the poor audio quality, I can't enjoy the reading of the book. Not only can I not enjoy it, I can barely make out the spoken words doing anything other than sitting perfectly still in a quiet environment.
