Agree - not one of her best and the narrator is so annoying it is all I can do to keep listening and I have just really started this one. The lisp isn't the problem so much as she's kinda monotone alot.
I almost didn't choose this title despite being a Nora Roberts fan because of the comments from other reviewers about the narrator having a lisp. I majored in speech in college and thought it would drive me nuts. What a pleasant surprise to find no major fault with the narration. Even trying to listen for it I didn't hear the dreaded lisp. This was a fun listen with characters who I look forward to hearing about again in rest of the series.
I don't have a problem with the narrator. She isn't as good as some I've listened to, but she isn't so bad that I have to shut it off (and I have a couple of books like that in my personal library). While I'm interested enough to keep listening to find out more about the characters, I don't like the cute little code they use. MOB. CBBM. MOG. MOH. Give me a break! If I walked into a room to find people talking like that, I would turn around and walk back out. Teenage kids might talk like that, but adults don't.
If I have to stop listening so I can write the letters down to try to figure out what they might stand for, you are detracting from the story, not enhancing it or the characters.
I bought this today, hoping that I could look past the lisp that others had described in their reviews. It is the worst narration I have heard. She has no difference in character voices, and the lisp is horrible. It is EXTREMELY disctracting, and actually makes me want to quit listening. To me, she sounds drunk. I do like most of NR's books, but this story is lacking. Dont waste your time or money.
this was a great start to a great series love mac and i think someone should kick linda though no one should be made to feel like that
This is an enjoyable story and it leaves you wanting to read all the others. I did not buy these books in order, I have read 2 & 3, thoroughly enjoyed them both. So far Bed of Roses is my Favorite. I liked this narrator on other books but I don't think she was a good fit for this story. Nevertheless it is worth the purchase. I look forward to the 4th in the series.
The narrator killed it for me too. I couldn't get past her lisp! It was incredibly distracting.
When I first started this book I did not think I would like the narrator. She was not as involved with the different voices as the other narrators I have been listening to lately but I am glad that I gave the book and narrator a chance. I promised I would at least listen to an hour of the book and after that hour I actually started to like the narrator. The book is about four best friends who open a wedding business. One is a photographer, one is the baker, one does the decorations, and one the planning and organizing. There are four books in this series two are out now and the third comes out in April 2010. Each book is about the business and friends as a whole but focuses on one individual at a time. The first is about the photographer, the second I think about the decorator, the third the baker, and the forth (my guess) the organizer. The people in the story are well written and all seem like real people. I recommend this book and ask that you give the narrator some time before turning off the book because she kind of grows on you after a while.
