The narrator killed it for me too. I couldn't get past her lisp! It was incredibly distracting.
Funny, sexy AND believable. I've read the first two books in this series, Vision in White & Bed of Roses, and I can't wait to start on the third!
When I first started this book I did not think I would like the narrator. She was not as involved with the different voices as the other narrators I have been listening to lately but I am glad that I gave the book and narrator a chance. I promised I would at least listen to an hour of the book and after that hour I actually started to like the narrator. The book is about four best friends who open a wedding business. One is a photographer, one is the baker, one does the decorations, and one the planning and organizing. There are four books in this series two are out now and the third comes out in April 2010. Each book is about the business and friends as a whole but focuses on one individual at a time. The first is about the photographer, the second I think about the decorator, the third the baker, and the forth (my guess) the organizer. The people in the story are well written and all seem like real people. I recommend this book and ask that you give the narrator some time before turning off the book because she kind of grows on you after a while.
When I purchased this audio, i listen to the sample and thought hey, this prob be a good book. Im sure the paperback is great. But the woman that narrates this book. I almost passed out at work. She doesnt have a voice that is listener friendly. It was bland. These audios i buy to listen at work and driving to and from work. And this is the only book on here i found that it was just blahhhhhhh.......
If I follow you, it's because I've glanced through your reviews and more than likely found books I've agreed with you on and also found at least one book that the majority loved, and you and I were less than thrilled with. I know I should follow you then for that next read that I will enjoy.
I like Nora Roberts books. They are usually an easy, it will keep me entertained, good enough book. But I usually don't enjoy a series I have read for a while and then listen to because it doesn't mesh with how I perceived the characters to be portrayed. New series, I thought probably okay. I like Dick Hill, a lot of people greatly dislike his narration.
The narrator's voice is fine for just the intonation, speaks clearly, but the portrayal makes the characters seem weak, whiny. Didn't care for her "male" voice. I listened to this book in the middle of listening to another book, when I got fed up with one, I'd switch back.
I might have enjoyed the book if I'd read it and not listened because I probably would have perceived the characters differently in my mind.
If you are an adult female, though, and have probelms with your mother, you could learn something from it.
I love all of Nora's books but seeing some of the reviews for the narrator Emily Durante, I was hesitant. Well I loved her! She made the characters come alive and I could just "see" them as if they were in the room with me. Great job!
I truly enjoyed this book, once I got past the reader's
slight speech impediment. I just wish Nora would
just hint at sex and pass up on the details, although some of her books are much worse.
This is the first Nora Robert's book I did not enjoy. I did not care for the narration and it was distracting from the story. Typically I have a hard time putting them down. This one I had to force myself to listen to all the way through.
This story was one of my favorites by Nora Roberts. Although the narrator did have a lisp, I thought she did an amazing job and I can certainly overlook and just appreciate the strength and fortitude of the narrator to pursue her passion in spite of a minor speech impediment.
Can't wait for the next one in this series!
