A working mom that loves to read but has not time to sit and enjoy a good story...so I listen and LOVE stories of ...
a better story. a better narrator. Listening to this story was similar to watching a never ending movie with bad actors and dreadfully boring and transparent plot.
Natalie Ross tried to "act" the words of the book -- very unsuccessfully -- annoying giggles and unwelcome clearing of the throat.
I like to read/listen on my way to and from work...it keeps me OFF my phone and FOCUSED on driving!! ;)
Wow this book was truly messed up! The imagination used to create the details has to be a scary one. I just wish that the story led you to the characters a little better. I mean I kinda knew who the person was when he was introduced but it wasn't because of the details presented so much as the way the narrator spoke. I did enjoy the book but I would like to know a little more about the main characters...why do u buy a series if so much of their life takes place between the books? If I had a complaint it would be that.
I enjoyed the story and the narrator did a decent job of portraying the different characters, but there were many instances when passages in the book were repeated as if the narrator read the same paragraph twice back to back. As I don't have a physical copy of the book, I cannot see if it was written this way. However, based on the repeated passages (and their lack of importance), I'd have to say someone editing the audiobook did a horrible job of making sure no passages were repeated prior to the audiobook being released for sale.
I love the characters and the story and really appreciate having a woman-from-Georgia author of this quality, but I am very, very unhappy with the editing and/or narration of this series, especially the volume volatility.
I've read the first 4 books in the Will Trent series now but find I can only listen to any of these narrators on my HIGH END smart phone with my thumb over the speaker to smash down on the screaming then still be able to hear the normal volume levels. That negates the value of being able to listen to an audio book while washing the dishes, eh?
I've tried multiple equalizer apps to no avail and MOST of the 200+ audiobooks I've listened to do not have these extreme volume ranges.
I imagine better sound editing could solve most of this problem, but the Trent 1-4 narrators seem to speak as a blow-hard character, or a terrified woman by blowing out my ear wax and leaving me with an aching head. There are more subtle ways to distinguish characters and provide drama. Just now, I listened to a section where Faith screams, "WILL! WILL! HELP!" My head still aches 15 minutes later.
KARIN! AUDIBLE! HELP!!!!!!
I really enjoyed the introduction of Will Trent to Sara Linton. I could feel the sizzle through my speakers. I can't wait til they get together. The overall story was good with some really good twists. I had no idea who the killer was and the suspense was well executed. I appreciated the way ill-effects of anorexia was brought to the forefront as I don't hear much about it lately. I'm a Kathleen Early fan for sure when it comes to narrators, however I was equally impressed by Natalie Ross's performance. She did a great job and I look forward to listening to other books she's narrated.
Will Trent is my favorite because he's strong yet fragile - its a great dynamic. I enjoy the way he's attracted to both Angie (femme fatale) and Sara (girl next door) and the struggle within. Its obvious he's a good guy, with flaws and some demons he's fighting.
No, this was the first. She's a close second to Kathleen Early. But I'll definitely be on the lookout for her other work.
No extreme reaction, except that it sucked me in right from the very beginning. The story was absolutely rivoting and I enjoyed every minute. Karin has a lot of twists and turns in her novels, she's an absolute genius.
I'm so grateful and appreciative of the time, creativity and attention to detail in these stories. It makes a long commute enjoyable and something I look forward to! A big THANK YOU to Audible, Brilliance Audio, Karin and her team and the talent who bring these novels to life!
