I won't lie it took time to get into but then I fell in love!!!! It was awesome!!! And the other books in the series I loved too, though not as good as the first. I've listened to it 4 times!
I'm sorry, but I thought this was one of the corniest books I've listened to in a long time. I liked the premise, though, so I kept listening, hoping it would get better. It didn't.
The plot was boring and predictable. The characters were flat and cliched with no (or erratic) development. The narrator, while somewhat pleasing to listen to in her primary voice, made the male characters sound ridiculous! I won't be reading the next book... I'm glad I only paid $4!
boooorrrrriiinnggg, the author and reader where trying to put me to sleep. I plot was too trasparent and the reader's voice to monotonous. the few character voices she did were laughable, especially her (deep) male voice, which if the commander really did talk like, would have had nobody fooled- you'd understand if you read it. anyhow, it was on sale for 4$ so I guess I'll stop complaining
At first I found the storyline to be bland and the characters blander...the narrative seemed flat...but I did like the book better toward the second half as it did pick up. I do believe the character development needed improvement but the unique tale kept me interested. This is book one of three, I listened to the other two after this and the author does improve and grow, which I appreciated hearing and witnessing!
Should have listened to Untateve! Gotta remember that!
Two dimensional characters who think/talk like they have a room temperature IQ and plot a blind man could see a mile away. Not only did I not care about the characters, I found myself looking forward to their deaths. However, for this book to be worth what I paid for it would be that ALL the characters die horrible deaths. No such luck.
Geez Louis! Books like these should offer a refund for being so bad or at least an anti-nausea potient
Oh well, back to listening to Outlander for the umpteenth time. How much longer can it take Gabaldon to write another book about Jamie ???
I thought this was a fantastic book- full of adventure, excitment, and danger with a touch of magic and romance. I finished listening to it last night and I'm downloading the sequal right now!
I would highly recommend this to any woman who has a warrior adventurer hidden inside her. The prose is somewhat stumbling at times (a breeze smelling as fresh as "expensive perfume'??) but the story is satsifying and engaging. I downloaded the 2nd book in the middle of this one, knowing I would be wanting it right away.
I couldn't endure any more. I gave up after chapter 17. I've listened to recorded books for over 15 years and this is the first one I couldn't finish. "Amateur" is the word that comes to mind. Amateur writing and amateur reading. Someone below mentioned Frank Muller in the same sentance as this reader. In her dreams!
