I thought this was a fantastic book- full of adventure, excitment, and danger with a touch of magic and romance. I finished listening to it last night and I'm downloading the sequal right now!
I would highly recommend this to any woman who has a warrior adventurer hidden inside her. The prose is somewhat stumbling at times (a breeze smelling as fresh as "expensive perfume'??) but the story is satsifying and engaging. I downloaded the 2nd book in the middle of this one, knowing I would be wanting it right away.
I couldn't endure any more. I gave up after chapter 17. I've listened to recorded books for over 15 years and this is the first one I couldn't finish. "Amateur" is the word that comes to mind. Amateur writing and amateur reading. Someone below mentioned Frank Muller in the same sentance as this reader. In her dreams!
This read is by far superior to most that I have read! Its characters are soundly created and the story flows nicely. There are many unexpected twists and turns in this story making it difficult to stop listening to once you start. I really enjoyed this book. Don't miss the sequel to Poison Study, Magic Study as it is equally absorbing! You will not be dissapointed with this one.
This was one of the best stories I've listened to yet! Initially, I skipped over this book, not believing I would enjoy aa "fantasy" type story. It was a lack of new material that caused me to try this one and I am so glad I did. I've listened to both Poison Study and Magic Study several times already and have gotten my two young teens into it as well. Audio books are the best use of an Ipod in my opinion. My only complaint is that I now have to wait nearly a year for Fire Study to come out. Great job by the author and the reader!
This book grabs you and doesn't let go. You feel all the emotions of the main character. The story is captivating to the very last page and when you get there you wish it didn't end. If you love fantasy action and romance this is a must read.
My expectations of this book, given the publisher, were pretty low. I expected an entertaining but formulaic romance, but this book was far more than a romance. Indeed, it hardly seemed to fit the romance genre at all. The story was engaging and not entirely predictable, and the characters were quite interesting. The narrator did a superb job at bringing the characters to life.
As the book opened, the name of the publisher, "Harlequin" made me inwardly groan and think I'd wasted a book selection. Fortunately, I tried to keep a somewhat open mind and kept listening; lucky me!
What an AMAZING book! I couldn't stop listening to it. I am so very involved with the characters and the story line. I thought I knew what was going to happen each time but (at best) was only half right. I could not figure out the 'world' in which the story was set because she kept throwing me off each time I'd make try to put it in a "box".
I do not particularly like fantasy books and will usually stop reading the description when I see this word. This book's summary and reviews intrigued me enough to get it and I'm glad I didn't let my typical biases stop me from trying it. I already have "Magic Study" and am going to listen to that starting today. I want to find out what happens!
If this book doesn't sound like it's really your type of selection, give it a try anyway. I have a feeling that you'll become hooked like the rest of us seem to be.
