I enjoyed this book very much. I really wish audible would clearly post the order of books that are in a series (above the fold on the web page.) It is currently difficult to figure out the right order based only on the "more by the same author" and release date.
In my opinion, even books in a series should be independent of each other, and this one didn't give me enough background to get oriented for quite a while. Otherwise I have no complaints.
Magic Study by Maria V Snyder was,...absolutely magical. It re-awakens the vibrant hope and imaginative energy, that is often time, too rare too remember. It made me believe in magic again and reminded me that the world is still full of magic and hope,...as long as they are persistantly sought after
One memoerable moment is when Yelena enter Roses thought by bypassing magical defenses and enters through her heart,..ans soul
I loved Gabra Zacimans vocal character changes. It really helped in the character image
MAGIC STUDY The Soulfinder Chonical
The Perfect Storm! Audible, a great Audiobooks Reader and an adventure/romance in my little green iPod...
Maybe... it's not a bad story, but nothing really exciting either. I wish there would have been the same story with a bit more attention paid to the love story!
The love story between the two main characters... he's in charge of her life and she's in love with him. But there was not enough of a "pay off" in the end.
Half and Half... I've heard better and I've heard worse.
I did finish the series... More of a teen book.
Designer. Aviation Enthusiast. Fitness Instructor. Love books. Prefer long series with happy endings in mystery, comedy, fantasy, & romance.
I listened straight through. The narrator was easy to listen to, the story had me hooked. You feel yourself drawn in and loving the characters. There are some books that pull you into another word, another land, another place or time; and this is one of them.
I ADORE Gabra Zackman's narrations and have recently sought out more of the books she reads because she is just sooooo easy for me to follow along. She uses light voice changes to change between characters, but nothing distracting. Maria Snyder NAILED IT with a variety of characters, magical plot and a whirlwind romance that is not over done. GET ALL THREE BOOKS.
Just wish audible would label the book numbers better on the mobile app.
If you loved the first book you should read this one. Its not as good as the first, but almost. There is a lot more magic in this book but the main themes of self reliance, self mastery and self exploration still abound and are fascinating.
I am new to audio books & loving it!!
This book was a great sequel to poison study. I actually liked it better than the first book. It was hard to stop listening! Again the narrator does a great job with all of the characters. I could recognize all of their "voices".
My eternal best friend is my husband. I act my shoes size, not my age. I have a love for cartoons of all Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks/CN types. I faithfully serve in the Kid's Ministry at church. Hopelessly addicted to audio books with happy endings.
No Spoilers, but you MUST read book 1 even before you read this review:
I felt wound-up, anticipating my drive to work so I could hear what came next!
--Only a little music in the book, but not like Poison Study music.
--I missed Valic at first.
--It was largely awkward to hear Yelena meat her family...I felt squirmy just listening to them dance around each other not knowing what to say.
--Some explicit descriptions of abuse (much like Poison Study)
Yelena knows next to NOTHING about magic. She studies magic at The Keep with Iris. She does a lot more "solving problems" at the keep than actually book studying magic…she is a little old to go to magical kindergarten. Her magical ability is unique and powerful. Since we know as much magic as Yelena knows, we are just as surprised by the magical benefits that she stumbles across. She learned to be a loose cannon from living in Icksia, which causes so much trouble…for everyone else...but seems to benefit those too weak to protect themselves.
The story does fly a little wilder than Poison Study. I felt less grounded and a bit taken advantage of by the magical liberties. Magic wasn't the perfect solution to solve all problems, but it is what the south country of Citia has depended solely on for centuries, and now Yelena had to learn to be dependant on it too.
Tell us about yourself!
Second book in series not quite a good as the first, but still a great way to lose yourself for a few hours.
The second and third books are so far away from what was likeable in the first book. It's as if someone else was asked to write the sequels and Really didn't understand what was important or valuable from the author's first work. I liked the first book so well I immediately bought the second and third that was a mistake!! I powered through the second hoping that the third would improve but they just continued to get more ridiculous as they went.
Stop with the first book do not purchase the second or third books you'll like it so much better as a stand alone book!! Trust Me..
