Well written, thoroughly researched, and a real eye-opener about how myths develop around dramatic events and take on a life of their own.
This is a complex story and Cullen is commendable for avoiding easy answers.
A disturbing story, well told.
Words that sum up the Unabridged book "COLUMBINE":
3. The most informative book ever written!!!
I could not turn off my IPOD during this listen. Every emotion came over me from the beginning to the most emotional ending I have ever listened to. I don't think I will ever be the same after reading "COLUMBINE"!
"Columbine" is a must read for all, including High School Students. In fact, especially High School Students. If ever a movie is made based on this book it would be impossible to create a masterpiece the author was able to accomplish.
Congratulations to all, especially the author and the reader, for bringing "Columbine", the book, to the public.
It's tough to write a book about the most notorious school shooters in U.S. history-Harris and Klebold. It is an even-handed treatment, backed by impressive research, covering the gamut from the minds and motivations of the killers themselves to the victims and their families.
Mr Cullen's account of Columbine is a scathing indictment of the media as well as the ineptness and arrogance of Jeffco law enforcement.
Reliving the tragedy through Don Leslie's excellent narration, brings tears to one's eyes and inflames one sense of justice.
Ten years later, the listener is transported to that terrible April day gaining understanding along the way.
Delving deeply into the antagonists lives clearly conveys the true nature of these two individuals and the irreparable, long lasting harm their acts exacted.
Unfortunately, the horror of that incident has done nothing to mitigate mindless slaughter in this country.
This book dispels the myths about school shootings and goes to the heart of the social-psycho conditions that caused the Columbine massacre.
As you may have guessed, it isn't the bullied kid that snaps, it is the kid who does the bullying who plans additional horror. Of course, the situation is much more complicated than that and Dave Cullen gently guides you through the mayhem.
Don Leslie's reading is at times urgent, cold, calculating, angry, sad, and clinical. The reading evokes the emotions of the situation and it enhances the listening experience.
A good companion piece to this audiobook is "The Sociopath Next Door"
This book really fleshes out everything about what led up to the event, the actual event and the aftermath. So much of what the media portrayed is wrong or just very limited. It was a fascinating listen because it was so well researched and presented. Great narration.
You have to pay attention while you listen to this book because there are so many people involved in the story. I listened once and listened the second time. The books seems well researched and the writing is clear.
My only fault with the book - if it is a fault, is that he states that the initial reporting was inaccurate including his reporting. But he does not say which articles he wrote that were inaccurate. I don't think he did this out of an attempt to deceive us but more of an attempt to keep himself out of the story.
Supberb. Great writing, great narration. Even though the story doesn't follow chronologically, the author has framed this tragedy exceptionally well. As a recently retired school administrator, I always dreaded 4/20, now I really know why.
When I heard the author on Coast to Coast AM, i was so impressed with his research i had to listen to the book, it doesn't disappoint, very well written and researched, and excellent listen
