British accent coupled with British terms (privy, sullies, fitter, kit, etc.) made the listening experience too unnatural to mentally immerse myself in the story. An undesirable amount of background and monarchal history only added to the British flair of the entire experience. It would have been 4-5 stars if (a) I was British or (b) the book wasn't. Yes, I looked it up & now know that the author is Australian.
Disappointment in my own ability to enjoy anything British (including their attempts at humor). Time for a spot of coffee...
Not at this time. Thank you.
I love these books. My kids and I have read All of them, so I thought we could share them on Audible, but we cannot. The reader breathing into the microphone was so bad that I had to listen in small chunks to get through the story. And my son deciced it just was not worth it. He is not the worst reader I have encountered here, but I will definitely NOT download anything else he reads. I sincerely hope that the Brotherband series are read by someone else.
Listen to books....much easier on the eyes!
Not a bad start for a series. I hope that it does pick up a bit though. Good read.
