This is one in a great series. Start at the beginning and enjoy the ride! (However, I think this might be a woman's book as my husband hates this entire series.)
I can devour an audiobook. It's taken the place of television for me. I love fiction, mysteries, auto-bios....even cookbooks.
I've read the series through this installment. I will be starting the next tonight. I would like to tell those who are looking for sex, murder and heavy stuff to steal clear. These books are about wonderful people coming to terms with a changing culture. They are gracious, kind and endearing. I fell like I want to know more people like these. There is meaning with every cup of bush tea ( my husband and I now drink bush tea several times a day after discovering the health benefits) but more than that, it makes me long for a different , more polite world. these books have hit me on a very deep emotional level that I find hard to articulate. For some they may mean nothing for others, well you will understand. Give them a try! There are some great life lessons and silliness for a good laugh out loud time.
The random musings and the outbursts of Grace.
They are all beautiful.
Precious, no doubt.
I've enjoyed every single moment.
She brings the characters to life.
These books are like dear old friends or like a familiar face in a crowd of strangers. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to every one of them. I so appreciate that there is no profanity, obscenity, explicit sexual content, and gratuitous violence. The stories are both compelling and a pleasure to listen to without all that.
Mother and Grandmother with varied reading interests, just needs to be unique enough to hold my attention.
Easy listening fun!
what I like best about all of the series, fun cases, keeps you guessing, good clean detective stories with an African twist
her beautiful voice
Charlie surprised me this book by showing some sensitivity

i have enjoyed the whole batch of books
the pronunciation of the names
i realy enjoyed all the books
I was very much looking forward to listening to this book because I had read other books in this series and found them amusing and interesting. I was very disappointed by both the Author and especially by the narrator, Lisette Lecat, who was not only exceedingly s-l-o-w, but pronounced every 'M' as MMMMMM, until I couldn't stand to hear another word, even when I put my Ipod on 'faster' speed. It was so slow and boring I couldn't even tell you what it was about.
This is one of the books in the Ladies #1 Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. This is a top notch series and I believe that to truly enjoy the series, every book should be read in the order written. The characters and story line develop over time in the series and they are people you really want to get to know. The story lines and characters can be funny, disgraceful or tragic, but they are always interesting. Smith is a keen observer of people and has great talent for drawing characters and telling whopping good stories.
The reader is the same for each book in the series and she is one of the best I have ever heard. She gives consistly solid performances over the entire series. The characters remain the same from one book to the other. Her accents are extrordinarily good. If I had to choose between reading this series and listening to it read by this reader (Lisette Lecat) I would without hesitation choose the audible version. Purchase them all - they are so very good.
I'm not sure which number this is in the Ladies' Detective Agency series, but for the first time in reading these, I found myself a bit tired of it all. For any who love Smith's skill and insight as a writer, and likewise the characters in Mma Ramotswe's world, it's worth reading. I'm glad I did . . .but feel ready to move on now.
Another pleasant little tale -- nothing deep, but I don't listen to this author for deep -- just to amuse myself.... and it does amuse!
