Great new series from the king of suspense!! James Patterson does it again with the introduction of the Murder Club - a club made up of four fantastic women who collaborate to solve crimes. This fast-paced, can't push stop mystery is James Patterson at his best. Hold on tight for a fantastic ride to the very suspenseful ending.
Patterson can be such a good author but not when writing from a woman's point of few. The book is made worse by the narration which didn't follow the text description (for example, when the two police are questioning a VIP and are described as being tactful and cautious, the narrator's voice is the opposite--snotty and sharp.) (Another example: A character is devastated by a major loss and the narrator reads her line in a perky, peppy voice.) I won't spoil the ending but it made a bad book worse. Final insult: implying that these professional women would call each other "the girls."
This is a great listen! I couldn't "put it down", even at work! Thank goodness for headphones!!!! Will be downloading the rest of the series now!
This just isn't my type of book. It follows a predictable pattern. There is just enough sex and violence, just enough blood and pathos to make the grade for this genre. I am looking for more. I think people who like light reading, mystery and thrill, might enjoy this. I won't order any more this author.
I liked the plot and pace, but the female characters were nothing like any woman I've ever known. Mr. Patterson might either want to write mostly male characters or spend more time getting to know a wider range of ladies. I have eight close, female cousins, a sister, and a slate of ill-conceived relationships littering my past, and I couldn't see any of the personality traits uniquely feminine in his main character. Also, the characters talked too much like one another. As an example, I think every significant character except one said "God", "Jesus", or some derivation of the same throughout the book. I was an atheist for 23 years, and I've never been in a mix of people who ALL used the Lord's name in vain.
Otherwise, I like it! If you want to pass the time with a talented storyteller, Patterson is a decent option.
I am a huge fan of the early Alex Cross novels so thought I'd try this new series. The female characters were very stereo-typical and the plot too unbelievable. I was disappointed with it and will not continue the series. If you like to read Patterson because you always know what to expect, then you wont' be disappointed. If you're looking for something fresh and unpredictable, keep looking.
Ordered this book for me. Hubby & I always enjoy James Patterson's Alex Cross series. Thought this might be more for the female listeners but hubby enjoyed it so much he had me order 2nd Chance for our next trip. Even though the leads are female, there's no FLUFF here.
Patterson has created another great series. Too bad the narration is terrible. The voice is nowhere near the character image in my head and when the narrator tries to imitate other voices it get's even worse. Otherwise, a great, intense story.
