UGH!!! Well not completely. The story line was good. Plot ok, kinda slow... but I think for the most part the READING was ANNOYING!!!! To say the least. Not sure if its just me, but the reader drove me INSANE. Nice voice, but there was an influx or rise in tone at the end of almost every sentence... I wanted to pull my hair out. I liked the book, for the most part- but not sure if I will get more from this series. I think I will have to try another. I have listened to Sophie Kinsella, and Charlaine Harris. Love Chic Lit, and for the most part have been satisified with books until now. Sorry; I would suggest to preview first to see if you can tolerate the reader, and then go from there.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
yes, as you are right there in the story with this fun team of characters. Use 1.25x speed to get the fast pace of the mystery and still get great Zackman
when Dena admits to being in love. When mama Katz explains their history. Each book builds a little of our heroines background. She is gets stronger and more insightful with each book. Anatoly is not the focus of this book, but still has a small part. This was just fine as the other characters mixed it up with Sophie.
Yes, as Gabra Zackman brings all the wonderful authors' characters to life. Her male voices are great and Ms Zackman interpretes each character with a unique voice. Love Dena!
yes, and I am listening #2 to #6 straight through. I had listened to #1 a couple of years ago and got into the mood for lots of humor and light mystery. Enjoying myself heaps!
If you were to try just one, so far, I like book #2.
Never a dull moment in Sophie Katz life. That is probably why she is one of my favorite sleuths OR is it the title of the books that hook me OR is it the sexy boyfriend, Anatoly? HUMMM.
In this novel she has found the home of her Dreams, a 3 bedroom Victorian. The only problem is her ex-husband is the realtor, the owner of the house is crazy, the house is haunted (which Anatoly thinks is all in her head), there are two murder victims back to back but she has a contract to buy the home of her dreams. It is up to her and her quirky friends to figure out what is going on in the house.
Love this series. Fast paced. Highly entertaining. Buy this book. I have already started the next one. The series is that good.
Sci-fi, detective, cozy. Only give 5s to those books I think stand above the rest. 4 is a good solid book. 3 is average, nothing special.
Ms Davis is very good at coming up with oddball characters. A bit over the top, but I guess that's what makes them fun. The narrator is good, but there seemed to be a few times she got bored.
The narrator had a strange intonation at the end of most of her sentences when she was talking to herself. It didn't occur in the previous books. Made it hard to love this
Mother, Wife, Cultural Anthropologist, always a scholar and lover of books!
This is another great book in a fun series - don't try to read them out of order - it will just confuse you. But DO read them if you like funky, fun mysteries with great characters.
I have two rescue dogs. One Scottish born husband. And a love of books that goes back to childhood and bookmobiles!
The story is very good BUT the reader is not; which is why I cannot give this a higher rating. A different narrator could make this fun mystery a five.
Sophie always cracks me up with her sarcasm and drama. This story made me wonder and laugh at the same time. And Mr. Cats is great, too.
Just plain good
The whole book, just a great, fun read
All of them, she just has a great voice
