Avid audio book listener with over 1600 books in my library!
It would be really difficult to dislike any book that the late Kate Fleming narrated. With that said, the story itself was fantastic! Well written and kept my interest the entire way. So glad to have found this author. I am looking forward to listening to this entire series!!
It took a while to tie all the characters together, but once I got into it, this was a "can't put down" listen. A complex trial story with background mystery complicated by science fiction (I hope) abilities by the villains kept me focused on the story. The author includes too many characters and relationships to keep straight easily, but none were extraneous to the plot. And at the end there were loose ends which kept this story unwinding in my mind for days after I finished it. Excellent narration by a skilled reader. I recommend it.
Wilhelm's prose spells atmosphere without slowing down and divulges character without heavy-handed tricks. It's old fashioned story-telling, as dependent on what's left out as on what's left in. Having told you nothing, I leave.
I liked the story. Didn't want to stop listening when I had to. Like the other 2 reviews I found 7 times when a line would be repeated. I think that should have been caught. In my other 47 books I've bought I've not hear any.
I actually liked this book quite a bit. The heroine was quite strident, but she grows on you. The download, however, was not good. There were at least half a dozen places that the recording repeated itself, so I'd have to listen to the same part of the story over again. Hard to fast forward when your driving. Hope they get this fixed.
Until hearing the end of Death Qualified it was going to be next in the series...but now I am not so sure
Anna Field definitely brings all the characters to life
No...this book needed several sittings to unravel what the author was trying to portray
I thoroughly enjoyed this book until the end. I was a little confused by some of the plot, but felt I didn't really need to understand it to get the most out of the story. However, the end just left me speechless and disappointed.....perhaps things will be explained in another book.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
great story, mystery with a who dunnit, and of course a bit of romance.
Best Defense, by same author. Good story teller. You will be glued to your listening devise.
I purchase as many of the late great Ms Fields stories that I can. Her voice is so very much missed. Her male voices are my fave, but she always brings out each and every character as the author wanted. See Susan Elizabeth Phillips with Anna reading them.
The ending just blew me away and left me heartsick for our heroine. It took me two days after listening to write this review.
the author is good, but a bit more internal introspection than I like. If ms fields did not read these, I would not buy more. I have purchased 5 of this author that ms fields read.
I have 3 more to listen. This is a must listen and do buy Best Denfense as it is not as dark, frankly better as you have a happier ending. Good clues.
The storyline description sounded interesting. Just completed "Desperate Measures" narrated by Margarite Gavin and thoroughly enjoyed the story and narrator. However, the narrator for "Death Qualified" sounds monotone and dull. I find it difficult to follow the storyline or listen due to the narration. I cannot base review on the book as a result. I liked "Desperate Measures" so much, I decided to read Kate Wilheim's series in order. However, I shall attempt to read this book via a paper copy of possibly kindle. Very disappointed as this is a new author and series for me. I suggest the book be re-narrated by Ms. Gavin or another narrator to promote this book and series.
I probably wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. It took 4 1/2 hrs before I could get into the story and it wasn't until half way through the second set that I really got engaged.
I probably would have started with Nell's relationship then fast forward to the beginning of the book and move forward from there.
