I put this book on at night before I went to sleep, and I had about 8 hours left to the book. I wound up loosing a whole night's sleep because it was so interesting I couldn't stop listening! Great book!
Ok, I'll be the first to say that I enjoy Stephen King's work and this story was no exception. However would someone please tell Mr. King to stop narrating his own books. It struck me during a piece of dialogue about how some people are able to effectively read out loud and some people are not. It just doesn't work for me with him reading. It actually makes me hesitant to buy Mr. King's audiobooks.
This is truly a HORRIFIC story because it could be happening to anyone you know. Again...King is at his best! I remember when I first heard the beginning of this story how mad & upset I was at Norman!!! A story had not made me feel that way in a long time. I have a lot of audio books and Blair Brown was a perfect choice for Rose. I also was pleasantly surprised to hear Norman's character read by a male voice (King himself). That added so much more to the listening experience. My Husband who doesn't read anything that isn't automotive related LOVES this story. We played our cassette tapes so much that they literaly broke apart. (That is how long we have been listening to this story.) I was so thrilled to be able to buy this version for my Epic 4G!!! I highly recommend this audiobook!
Stephen King can write to evoke emotion, there's no doubt about that. My problem with most of his work is that it's so dark and the ending is usually pretty unhappy. That being said, this book comes the closest of anything of his I've read to having a happy ending.
Wow every time I think I'm done with King I get another gem from him. This book hooks you right from the start and is great all the way through. A+
I absolutely LOVE this book! I have this in paperback and have read it numerous times. Usually for me, Stephen King tends to ramble on, but this story of self-empowerment always has me turning page after page after page. A must-read(listen) if you're a Stephen King fan!
I love this book, but the reading of this is what has made me unable to put my ipod down. Blair Brown has such a melodious ad beautiful voice, and of course, we all love when Stephen King reads his own work. It's love!
A wonderful book I would recommend to almost anyone. It is not as weird as some Steven King books I have read but has just enough weirdness (if that is a word) to make it great!!!! I found myself "taking the long way" in my car just so I could listen to more. I hate to drive (but spend allot of time on the road) and this book made me look forward to driving. Definitely worth the credit and would even be worth buying if you don't have any credits built up!!!!
This is the story of a woman who is married to an abusive, cruel policeman who has beaten her brutally for many years. When she finally escapes to build a new life for herself, she takes you with her on her journey. In an antique shop, she sees a painting that speaks to her. She can't explain what it is about this picture but it gives her guidance and strength. She finds solace in it. It heals the wounds inside her. But you didn't really think she was going to get away that easy did you? It wouldn't be a suspenseful Stephen King story if that were the case. It will keep you on the edge of your seat!
I love the "oinking" sounds they made when the husband's character was about the tell the story from his viewpoint. Stephen King does a very good job narrating.
One of my favorite Stephen King stories. Definitely worth a listen! I'd highly recommend it.
Artist. Designer. Insatiable consumer of literature.
The narrators were fine...though Stephen King's narration is a bit dry. Does dialogue well, however.
It isn't the quality of the book that ruins the experience. I've read it in novel form and enjoyed it enough. The problem is the musical interludes: they're jarring and totally pull the Reader out of the story. I wish there was a Music Off option.
