A school administrator and avid reader and listener of books. At least an hour of every day is spent in the car, and that's where the bulk of my listening is done. I tend to listen to books on "faster" mode so I can get through more books!
Maybe I shouldn't have first read this book in my 40s. Maybe it would have made more sense or had more meaning had I read it in middle school, when I had friends who raved about it. This just didn't do it for me. Moving on.
The dramatization was distracting and made it harder to follow the story. The audio mix was awkward and made listening in the car very difficult as some characters spoke from one side of the car, some from the other. With road noise, and even with a decent, though not amazing, stereo system, you still need narration out of all speakers to truly hear it very well.
It's just not converted to digital format well. Whispering and loud bangs, the levels are terribly normalized. Maybe if you use noice cancelling headset, and a volume knob... but not suitable for an ipod!
Highly recommended for those that don't get it.
Nothing compares, truly unique.
Marvin will make you laugh.
This book defined my development into an adult.
For those of you that don't get it when your friends make jokes about H2G2, this is an easy way to get the idea. I warn you that once you get a taste you will be hooked. It is a tragedy that Adams didn't live to see the iPad. If Steve Jobs had hired Adams to design the iPad we would have the perfect device.
Humor, witty-ness, well dramatised, Good story, moves right along. Imaginative. Very upbeat, great pace, read clearly.
hilarious and witty
I want more of this!
This has the worst audio I've ever heard on audible. Although the sound quality was bad and the constantly changing volume level was the worst thing. I couldn't even finish the first chapter. luckily I only paid $2 for the book.
I confess up front that I've read the book and seen the movie, and more than once at that.
Obviously then, I knew the story was 5 star, and I realized by the length of this audio book that it wasn't the complete work, but I wanted to see how BBC had done the original broadcast. I must say, they did a great job. Well engineered and with a great cast of voices.
The interview at the end was also enlightening and gave some insight into the oddball man that Douglas Adams was.
If you've never listened to or heard of the Hitchhiker's Guide before, I recommend you get the complete work or read the book. If, however, you are like me and have familiarity with the book already, then you will find this work quite enjoyable.
Great performance! Loved it! I listened to this while walking my dogs in the neighborhood, and didn't even care about laughing out loud!
The left side of the brain thinking, outrageous and fun stories. Kind of Monty Python fun
42....and recreation of Earth....and of course the Guide book itself to help explain EVERYTHING ELSE...enjoy and have a good laugh
All of sequels are just AS ENJOYABLE
This is a great set of shows from the very beginning of the Hitchkiker's craze. Plus some bonus material with interviews providing some nice behind the scenes info. Overall very enjoyable.
