I can't quite put my finger on why I enjoyed this book so much. It's a coming-of-age story, and I'm not coming upon any age except elder, but Melinda's slightly skewed, newly sardonic voice kept me interested. I cheered her at the end, just like a kid.
In life, not all tales of this kind end well, and not all triumphs are dramatic, but the story also speaks strongly of the healing that comes with realization, and time.
Definitely an intense read but it is the story of a lifetime. Nothing I have read before compares to this story. At first you know nothing then when you are finished you are left with everything in your head. This is an amazing read.
This was the most real story I have read in a long time. It's always a joy to find a gem years after its publication. I have high hopes for Melinda!
This was such a powerful story! The girl Melinda had to go through Hell alone. I was waiting for the typical chick-flick Prince Charming to come save her but
that's not what the story was about. It was about overcoming inner demons and it was just such a great story.
