Once again, Lisa Gardner does not disappoint. Excellent story, interesting characters. Narration was excellent as well. I have all of the audible books by this author, and look forward to the next.
This was a good choice, some days I have trouble connecting to a title and have taken books that just fall short. I took this one just because.. it was there. Good luck!! Would recommend it.
Sorry, but I would never call Lisa Gardner a "master of suspense", especially after this dud. Every character had a secret, (some creepy) making the plot so ridiculous that by the end, I really didn't care "who did it." A complete waste of time and credits.
First off, the multiple-voice narration is great and adds to enjoyment of listening. The plot line kept me interested, but Detective Warren became quite irritating, leaping to unwarranted conclusions on the flimsiest, or even absence, of any real evidence. I found her becoming "whiney", bemoaning at one point that she "just wants to arrest someone". In contrast, Gardner does a good job laying out some issues related to sex offenders, and our tendency to overlook the varying severity and nature of the wide range of offenses that can cause someone to be labeled as a sex offender. The plot was compelling enough to flirt with 5 stars, but ultimately the irritating Detective knocked this down to 4 stars for me.
Usually pick books based on other listener's reviews, which I also did with this one. It's a good and interesting book, but there are lots of others out there that's more worth your time. The characters are quite shallow, and the story is dragged on, not realy letting you know anything, and then towards the end everything's told in 3 minutes.
If you've got a lot of time: Listen to it. Otherwise pick something else!
I stayed on the treadmill longer just so I could listen to this book. This is one of the best books I have ever listened to.
Too many books I listen to are so bogged down with tedious details, wherein we have to hear about way way too much. Too many details can often take away from the flow of the book, and can make my attention wander, and make me bored. Well, this book did that.
The ending was a bit absurd, and I didn't really like any of the characters. They were not sympathetic characters, for whom I am willing to extend a break for their bad behavior.
I got so frustrated with the droning on and on that I went to the library and checked out The Neighbor just so I could hurry up and get to the end.
Very suspenseful and very well written. Couldn't stop listening. I was guessing all the way through to the end. Great book and performed well. I enjoy when there's more than one reader.
This book was very good. I loved the narrators as well. However I did have a hard time with some of the content. One of the main characters is a child molester, and this issue is addressed throughout the book. Its an issue that SHOULD be acknowledged and discussed, and I kept listening because I know that, but I struggled with it for personal reasons.
Leave out the child molester side of it, which was a big angle in the story.
