1*=I didn't like it..... 2*=It was OK...... 3*=It was good but I will never read it again.......... 4*=Maybe I will read it again in the future.............. 5*=I will definitely read it again(maybe more than once)
Never mind what age you are and never mind how old the story is.
Everything, the humor the plot and the events made it a masterpiece which still has enough power to kick start a modern mind.
Many movies, cartoons and TV Shows were based upon this 130 year old story and none of them can be compared to the original because original is always better.
IMHO NARRATION OF JIM DALE IS THE BEST AVAILABLE
This is the first "Classic" Audiobook I have listened to. I enjoyed the adventure this book took me!! I wish someday I can have an adventure as the characters in this book The story from start to finish was mesmerizing!!
I tried to read around the world in 80 days twice and both times I found it boring and lifeless. This version though, I was caught up in the epic journey and incredible scope. Jim Dale is a flawless narrator and the sound effects and music make this one of the best audiobooks I have ever heard!
We thoroughly enjoyed this story. Some of Verne's books can be tedious, but not so with this book and narrator. The narrator does an excellent job, and is consistent with all the various accents used in this book. In short, he really brings the story to life.
Someone made some disparaging comments about the music at the start of the chapters. Allow me to clarify: The background music (which plays for a minute or two) is true to the time period and geographical locations where Fogg travels (Egyptian music in Egypt, Indian music in India,...). I generally dislike dramatizations, but I found the addition of the music to simply enhance an already outstanding story - it helped me further lose myself in the story.
If you're wondering if you should get this or not, just get it. You'll be glad!
Jules Verne is definitely a writer of his time, but if you can get past the stereotypes that permeate the book, there's a decent adventure yarn to be had. Jim Dale's awesome narration was the most pleasant audiobook surprise I've ever had - the man is truly a master of voices.
The only thing that bugged me about this story was the romance at the end - though it was foreshadowed for a good while, it still managed to be awkward and abrupt. However, the twist to the ending wouldn't exist without it, so I guess I can't protest too much. And it was refreshing to see a woman propose to a man for once, especially given that the story was written in 1872.
Around the World in 80 Days, a real classic! This version is done really well. It's complete with background sounds and music, which really help to set the scenes. And of course Jim Dale with all his marvelous, realistic voices adds to the excitement. We really enjoy listening as an accompaniment to our own travel!
sports announcer, cyclist, enjoys to travel and the outdoors.
I was skeptical about this book, but I love Jim Dale. I love a book that your not sure of and it exceeds everything. Great book, great read. I strongly recommend this very enjoyable and entertaining book
A fun listen that reminds one how colorful writing can be. Yes, it is a bit dated but that makes for half the adventure. A reminder that not so long ago just crossing the Atlantic was a trip more exciting than most today can contemplate.
My 11 year old daughter and I really enjoyed this book. Jim Dale does an excellent job of making this classic come alive. His character voices are clear and provide personality without distracting from the pace of story. You might recognize similarites in a few characters if you listened to many of the Harry Potter books.
