Enjoying one good listen after the next!
Great story line and plot, well written and a police procedural that is very engaging with lots of twists that you won't see coming. Narrator just seemed a bit "off" for this one. . perhaps because I've listened to many other Michael Connelly books and better like the other narrators for his books.
Not the best Connelly listen I've had, but one I wouldn't have wanted to miss!
This was my second Harry Bosch reading. After listening to A DARKNESS MORE THAN NIGHT, I picked this to follow the Harry Bosch trail - I thought he was an interestng character.
There were some flaws in the plot. I don't see a detective such as Bosch leaving Julis'a back story where it was. I think he would have spent a little more time chekcing out her past after the tragedy.
I also agree that the Dr's character was a little too superficial as another reviewer said.
I think Bosch is an interesting, complex character, though. He's got a brilliant mind but he misses some very obvious things until he stumbles on the right answer later on.
There are two more Bosch stories written since this one (LOST LIGHT and THE NARROWS which is coming out in May in print) but I'm going to go back to the beginning and read the earlier ones first. Hopefully the newer ones will be out on Audible by that time.
This isn't a perfect book but definitely worth listening to.
This story is certainly art imitating life. I was sure that this story would not end well and there would be loose ends, but no Connelly is a master at tying all the ends together. Connelly is a great story teller. I just wish that Dick Hill had narrated this one.
I am at a loss for words.. I have read in order every Connelly book - including the other series with guest appearances in Bosch's series and this book left me hanging. I was busy scanning photos as i was listening to it and all of a sudden I heard ' - we hope you enjoyed....-' I actually backed up the story to make sure I didn't miss anything. It was as though he had to finish this at a particular time and couldn't write another word after that second passed. I felt the story was not concluded New narrator...not my favorite..but I have heard worse.
I believe a reviewer should finish a book before submitting a review. What do you think?
I have first listened to the Alex Cross books with the same narrator. I can't bridge the gap to hearing the charcter of Harry Bosch in this book. Choosing this narrator for this book was a mistake, he is not believable in these roles.
Otherwise the story is ok, not too bad, not too terrific.
I have listened to all of the Harry Bosch books with Lou Cariou as the narrator and couldn't imagine Harry with any other voice so I out it off for a looonnngg time. I was pleasantly surprised with Mr Fernandez. He did a terrific job. The story was good with enough twists and turns to keep me tuning in. If you like Harry Bosch you will enjoy this story.
absolutely captivating...Harry Bosch is such a deep character that you feel like you everything about him. the narrator is one of the best i have heard, too...highly recommended if you like Micheal Connelly's work
This was my first Michael Connelly audiobook and it was excellent. I came upon the book because I like the narrator, Peter Jay Fernandez, as he narrated Patterson books. Anyway, I'm glad I did -- Mr. Connelly is an excellent writer and I was hooked...I didn't want to get out of the car - I would take the long way home.
Typical Connelly greatness! The story is great, the writing is in the typical straight-forward styly his fans will love.
The ending here is probably the most "hollow" or open ended I have experienced in his writings, but overall it is still good.
