I've loved all of Carrie Fisher's work. This is laugh-out loud funny especially because she is reading it. Her version of her mother's (Debbie Reynolds) voice is worth the price of the book. But most of all, what I've taken from all of Fisher's writing is that you need to see the humor in pain and tragedy in order to get through it. Her life is testament to this--and there's not an ounce of self-pity.
laugh out loud hilarious. I had no idea she was so funny. I can't imagine why anyone would not enjoy this...maybe other folks were hoping for something more princess Leiah? I am not a huge Star Wars fan, not that I hate it. anyhow, my other comic faves have included David Sedaris, Dan Savage, Paula Poundstone, Sarah Silverman.
Just the most ironic, laugh-out-loud, authentic-sounding memoir I've read in a long time. The artist formerly known as Princess Leia lays out rolicking wit similar in flat, deadpan delivery to David Sedaris. Provided in a raspy, too-many-cigarettes voice, Carrie Fisher's narrative of her trip through lala land is a stunner.
A must listen!
Her writing is humorous and engaging and her narration is wonderful. I wished it were longer!
Carrie Fisher's humor was non stop - her self deprecating 1 liners had me in tears. I know people at the stop lights were looking at me wondering what was wrong with me.
When she was referring to Lucas owning the "rights" to the Princess Leia likeliness - and referred to her cosmic regions.
I love her voice.
Avid fan of sci-fi and James Marsters, I use audio books to inspire me to exercise, taking them on morning walks. It's a perfect combo!
I really didn't know anything about Carrie Fisher other than 'Princess Leia', so I was surprised by her dry wit, honesty, and ability to laugh at herself and her whole (mostly pathetically sad) life. This has definitely made me want to seek out more of her books. I found myself laughing out loud throughout. A jewel of a book. Well worth the listen.
This audiobook "reads" like catching up with an old friend! I have been listening to it while at the gym, and it has caused me to laugh, not chuckle, laugh out loud a few times.
She really made me laugh in a couple of parts, but you have to really listen to this. Star Wars fan or not, you will appreciate it if you grew up with all the rage of the movie. This is a book I would re-listen to just for fun!
