I love this book. It helps me to see the work I need to do on myself instead of the frustrating futile work I try to do on others. It follows along with Jesus' directions to take the log out of your own eye. I've always known that what bugs me in others only bugs me because its a part of my character that is lacking. This is the first time that I've been able to apply that knowlege and change my thinking process: It is sooo practical. The only reasons I'm not giving it 5 stars is some of the philosophy I don't agree with. Everyone's ways are NOT beautiful. A murderer's ways are not beautiful. The moral compass given to us from the Bible is pure gold. It's just that when I try to judge others with that, its destructive. Shining the light of the truth by loving, accepting, and living the truth, others are compelled to follow suit.
I really like what I was hearing, and felt like I was learning, but she totally lost me when she got some points about raising kids.
There was some example she gave about having your kids pick up their socks because they are laying around the house and bothering you. You are the one with the problem and therefore you are the one who should pick them up. I think this mentality is rampant in parenting these day to the detriment of this generation of children. They NEED us to teach them how to clean up, to take care of themselves, to be productive human beings contributing to society, etc. Let's face it, sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. I think Byron Katie's way is way too passive. Some really great points she makes, but ultimately if we all did this it would create a new culture with a DIFFERENT set of imbalances and problems. That's my opinion.
I was so impressed with this book that I attended a two day intensive with Katie. I now practice the work and am amazed at all the nuggets in this book and her other products. If you get to Reality - you'll never be able to look at the world in the same way again.
The content of the book is fine, but I can't help but be distracted by the very poor quality of the audio. I've probably read over 100 books from Audible and this is the first time I was so disappointed in the quality. Even for free I would expect better quality.
I am telling you, it doesn't just sound like it was recorded over a telephone, it WAS recorded over a telephone. In this day and age when you can spend a few hundred dollars and record very nice sounding audio into a laptop, there's really no excuse for this to exist. I'm very disappointed Audible. Give me my credit back!
After a near death experience , I sought out many spiritual books. This book was suggested by a friend that believed it was the only book anyone ever needed. I found no inspiration in this what so ever ....and I've have seen an arrogance in this friend of mine that is very disappointing. since he embraced this book. Avoid this !!!!
Lost a friend over this book. He became a self centered ass after embracing this philosophy....Avoid this....Look deep inside yourself and love everyone around you instead...
