i read these as a young teen and now am rereading and finishing the serise for some childhood closure. What i have realized is that as cool and creative as the stories are, they are written in a very judgemental and harsh mind set. Zoe (the main character) is constantly judging and classifying even her own friends and hurting herself by looking at the world through sterotypes and needing to put everyone in one. There is a lot of slut shaming which i hate along with other things that wont help young girls feel better about themselves.
Hope the books get better in this regard.
I love this series. I absolutely hate the performance. There is something really annoying about the person reading this book. Mostly, I think it's the fact that you can hear her swallowing her own spit or water or whatever it is.
I would rate this an 8 out of 1-10 10 being my favorite
The plot ideas were great, this series has so many well thought out details that make this a unique story
she brings it all! Edwina is my favorite narrator, she just has a higher quality acting performance than anyone else I have heard. When she reads parts for various characters you can tell who she is reading even without being told. She knows how to express Zoey's personality and soul off the pages and into your speakers or earphones. I was very closely connected to the story and even felt like I was right next to Zoey watching her life all because of the unique and powerfully eloquent and graceful gifts Edwina brings out. I hope to find other books I read narrated by her!
It made me laugh, cry, gush with neediness at the things I have in common with the characters and for the time I listened to this book I actually felt like I was given a gift to feel like I was healthy and able to be active like these characters, I am a 31 yr old who is very ill and this book made me forget all of that and feel more like I was ready to go cart wheel and play int he sun like I wish I could!
Maybe if I were bored I'd listen to it as I was falling asleep. But I don't think I'll feel the need to listen again.
Most: the changing relationship with Zoey and Aphrodite. Least: the whole story line between Zoey and her perv teacher. It icks me out.
Obviously NOT American. She was always pronouncing things totally wrong -- the way she would of she were talking in her own Australian accent. Like saying shed-yoo-ul instead of sked-ule.
No more Edwina after this one -- yay! :)
Yes, I really am enjoying this series, looking forward to the next book.
Yes, it is easy to read and hooks you in as the characters are very easy to relate too.
Clear and characterised
Yes there is a lot still to be written or said
I am a miracle worker. Doing what I can to choose love over fear.
Unlike other series which usually have an ending each of these listens does not have real clossure. While serious like the hunger games, leave you wanting more, you do get an actually closure to that chapter in the characters life. In the house of night it feels like the authours takes away the four final chapters. This is both annoying and almost a blessing. Annoying because no matter kind of other titles you try to listen too, they are unable to fill the void from the house of night. It is a blessing, simply because adults who really enjoy cliffhangers finally have a series which is a non stop. If this book really hit home, do not wait, but simply buy the next one. Because as soon as its over I can promise, that you will want more. It is important to remember that chosen unlike book nr. 2, is even more explit than book nr. 1, which means it is not child or work safe.
This story is really intense. In fact it is perfect because it is not divided in two parts even though it is almost as long as other previous books. It is also a reminder to those of you who might think the magic in the book seems cool and harmless. I think it is good that the authors actually does their best to warn people about not to use it.
The scene where Neferet is truly seen. When you listen, just remember: "light does not always portray light".
It made me buy the next one. Even though they change the narrator in book four.
This is truly an amazing series, as a Christian I find it hard to navigate the different trilogy options. So this book is amazing, but hopefully the scenes will not be more like fifty shades of grey in the upcoming books. Because it would mean that I would not enjoy listening anymore, would it serve the purpose of the story.
Great story, keeps you interested.
Good story line and xtras
They change narrators for the rest of the books. None very good, So no point in wasting credits. After the 1st 3 books you want to hear more but the new narrators ruin it.
The story is well put together and moving at the pace it should be..... I love how the writer makes you feel as though you are growing with the characters and I also love the narrator because she's amazing at not making them all sound the same. She's excited and somber when she needs to be.
