Funny, endearing, and laughable. Ms. Moning makes a hit with this book. Mr. Gigante is a fabulous narrater.
The first make out scene on the cliff with the ocean sounds in the background.
Mr. Gigante gives another great performance. His voice is captivating and he is entertaining.
Loving my life and hanging out with my four grandchildren!
I'm a reader who likes to hear the "whole" story. That being said, I try to find good books that are written as a series. If a character grabs ahold and becomes real while reading its like they become family. The hero of this story is one who may fit that bill. Hawk is strong, handsome, honorable, and loyal. He's what most ladies want in their hero, so you will find he wins a place in your heart. Adrienne, who has been pulled from the future, on the other hand comes across, ( to me at least) , as being unsure of her own mind and feelings for most of the book. She was so back and forth that I was astonished Hawk found anything to love about her. She just never seemed to use her " modern thinking" brain for anything! She comes across as gulible and naive for the whole book! Considering she was from the future I expected better. She made me want to thump her in the head and scream, "Wake the @%$# up". I had to remind myself that she was just a character in a book.
Overall, the story caught my attention enough to want to continue the series, but I'm hoping the next book, To Tame a Highlander, is much better. Yes, I would recommend the listen because Phil Gigante does an excellent job and brings each character to life, and that's what we all want while we listen!
Literature and Writing Examiner, author, dreamer, all round fun chickiepoo!
I remember originally reading these as a methadone for Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series -- they were recommended to me on an email list. I fell in love with the entire series, loved reading them. Read them a couple of times. But my reading time grew a little short and the audiobooks seemed to be a great idea.
I'll be honest, the stories are amazing. Moning's characters are vivid and real, manly men and strong women. My favorite is still Grim. They have faults, they have virtues. They make mistakes, they make right decisions. And they all love hard. And well. I can't help but get caught up in the books.
So overall, these books are fantastic.
But the reader leaves a lot to be desired. His Scottish accent is so bad, he should have just let it go and read it. His "female" voices are just as bad, sounding cliched and idiotic. But his heavy handed reading of the love scenes had me giggling instead of enthralled in their passion.
You have to make that decision about why you want these books. If you can get around a mediocre reader, you'll fall in love with these books too. But I'd really recommend reading them instead.
...my finger slipped and I mistakenly touched the "rating stars".
How do I undo that?
PLEASE UNDO THIS RATING.
I enjoyed the book thoroughly except for the "special effects" of the spirit voices - didn't like that "tinny" sound. But the book was fabulous! And I was sooooo excited to find out that this is only Book 1 of 7!!!!! I finished Book 2 in 1 day and I will be starting Book 3 tomorrow!
Brogue - I loved!
Spirit voices - too tinny
I have a real crazy in love relationship with books!!!
At least half of the story being changed. I had big hopes for this but was definitely let down. It was so far past unbelievable, confusing, and was wayyy unromantic. In addition to that, the narrator makes Adrian sound whiny and child like. It is quite annoying. I honestly don't think this particular storyline could have resulted in a a higher rating.
I'm currently downloading One Night of Sin by Gaelen Foley. I am hoping that book is a much needed improvement from here.
The female voice was annoying and the way he made Hawk sound....ugh he sounded like a stupid barbarian. It sounded like an awful play with one person acting out every character. Sighing....unimpressive.
All of them, that way there would not be a Beyond the Highland Mist.
I wish I didn't have to write such a negative review but I read many reviews that help me make selections. I definitely appreciate the honesty of each reader so I think its only fair that I am absolute honest in my experience. Trust me, don't buy it, rent it, or even use a credit. Sorry...
I like Phil Gigante...I just like how he reads...
The ending was fine...kind of knew the direction of the story
Not sure what he brings but I just know that I enjoy how he brings the male characters to life.
I wouldn't make a film of this book...sorry.
Yes. I really enjoy Karen Marie Moning's Fever series and Phil Gigante is a great reader. However, I won't be listening to any more books from this series.
This is a true and typical romance novel. I bought it because I enjoy other books from this author, but this particular one just isn't my cup of tea.
Just wasn't my type of story.
Would not have made a difference for the story.
Absolute waste of time.
Recommended after reading the Outlander series and it did not live up to ANY expectation. It was a trashy romance novel, totally not my style and a complete waste of time.
Probably not from Moning
Hawk's character was not well developed--didn't act true to his nature. Most disappointing was that it was mostly about their sex life rather than that being a facet of their relationship.
Accent was good.
Several but will give one: after they make love the scene where he stands looking out the bedroom window.
I've enjoyed other time travel & highlander novels but this fell short of my expectations.
