I am a fan of Johanna Lindsey romance novels. Although this had a tad more crude sex then I like, I am hooked, I will be reading through the whole series!
If you are looking for light reading with no basis in historical fact, this is a really fun read.
The premise for time travel is fresh; I really like the characters in the fairy court.
First time- the voice is clear and pleasant.
Arrogant overlord meets his match
Mother of 3, grandmother of 6, retired nurse and substance abuse counselor. Thrilled to have the time to read or listen to books again.
I'm at a loss as to how this writer could ever be compared to Diana Gabaldon. There is no comparison, I'm at a complete loss as to how this book ever got published. It is juvenile and extremely frustrating to listen to as the narrator is very annoying.
The story line is quite pathetic especially the "love" story it tries portray as there is nothing in it that has any ring of truth to it. It's a work of fiction to the extreme but in every book you want to feel that the love story the author touches upon is at the very least fesible somewhere. I found everything in this book to be unbelievabe on every level. Sorry I wasted my money.
Im a busy Mama, always on the go! Lover of historical fiction and Sci fi horror.
Ok this book was recommended to me because I love the Outlander series, and it doesn't hold a candle. That said, this book was fun to say the least. If you're looking for substance go elsewhere, but if you like a steamy romance you won't be dissapointed. yummy!!
Easy going listener, I only write reviews is the book is really good or really bad.
Yes, great narration and wonderful writing
don't want to give anything away here
first time. Great narrator.
I really liked the slow build to the characters realization that they love eachother
Maybe, this kind of story is my private and guilty pleasure. The story doesn't compare to the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It's a similar concept, but not a well crafted.
When Hawk and Adrain FINALLY get it together!
I will most likely work my way through the series, however I really don't enjoy this guy's female voices. They really bug the hell out of me - they sound whiny!! So I had to work really hard on suspending my sense of disbelief - which is what fiction is all about, right?
He has a great voice for the male characters, but he just can't pull off the women - which is a disappointment. The romantic/sexual scenes were quite enjoyable - nice to hear a man talking sexy:-)
It never stops amazing me how we all have different tastes. There are quite a few people that didn’t like Phil Gigante, but I think he is absolutely incredible. He is a reason I am listening to a historical romance series which I never do.
The plot is quite cheesy, but please remembers this book is listed under ROMANCE and SCI-FI & FANTASY sections. I just wish people read reviews before they buy books, instead writing bad reviews because the story or characters are not very deep.
Anyway, these are perfect books for multitasking and simply being lazy. I enjoy Karen Moning style and the fantasy world she created. I already know that this will be one of the best series for for easy listening. And I will be listening to Highlander series again when I need a distraction.
I have already listened to this several times. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything
When Phil Gigante speaks in the highland accent you can feel that you're talking to an actual highlander.
This is a very well written interesting story. I just finished a series where most if the time I berated the main character for being too riduclous to be even partially believable. This series has been a complete breath of fresh air. I didn't want to stop listening I couldn't wait to see what happened next. This book had flawed characters that are very lovingly redeemable and i was easily able to identify with them.
I have very much enjoyed the magical qualities of this story. it is something different than what is mainstream supernatural right now (ie vamps and wolves) but with still enough magic to take me away from my everyday life and to a place where magic and fairies exist. It had just enough to intrigue but balanced it with humanity and mistakes of both worlds. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I have not listened to any of Phil Gigantes previous perfomances but I enjoyed this one. He has a very smooth and almost relaxing voice. It took a little getting used to when he would read a female character but after a while you don't seem to notice, but I suspect that would be the case with any male narrator. He definitely makes up for it when he reads the male characters. His voice made The Hawk even more attractive for me. The only truly disappointing thing for me about his narration was the brutal slaughter of a southern dialect. The heroine is from New Orleans but for me, listening to this attempt at a southern drawl was completely over the top and fabricated. I am a southerner and it was very hard to listen it especially in a falsetto. But all in all, I look forward to the next book in this series with him as the narrator, I just hope none of the characters are from below the Mason Dixon...
I definitely recommend and cannot wait to read the next book.
This was my first Karen Moning novel. Although the narrator's voice was a close runner up to Robert Petkoff's steamy scottish narrations in other audiobooks, I actually enjoyed this. I loved the concept of time travel to an ancient exotic place into the arms of a sexy lead male character. I also thought the author did a real nice job in painting the picture of the environment and characters so that if you closed your eyes you felt like you were there. I'm not sure why other did not enjoy this book. I found it to be a great mental escape. The only negative thing I would say about this book was that I felt like the author rushed the ending. Definitely giving Book 2 a try. I would recommend this!
