It has enough power from beginning to end to keep you needing more from a store with a green awning.
When she finds out that the noise in her necklace is a spider
The last one when the joke only a guy as evil as the store ownwer can appreciate is used as a weapon.
Pauly because she has more heart than any of the others
Yes, simply because of Stephen King's performance. The story is average, but listening to the man himself act out his book was hilarious.
Much better than the crappy movie. And much more keeping with King's paranormal/scary monster vibe.
Yes. Not often you get a chance to hear an author read his own work! Not his best story, but a nice end to the Castle Rock stories.
Characters. With King, it's all about the characters.
Absolutely. Only he knows how he intended his story to be told. Glad he doesn't try to do voices, but wish he sounded more comfortable and natural reading dialogue.
Sheriff Pangborn. Trying to hold his town together against an unknown threat while dealing with his own inner demons.
Really enjoyed this story. I think King does a great job with the narration, his accent fits in with the locale in the store so no complaints there. But the music should have been left out. It's out of place, distracting and makes it impossible to hear parts of the story. Would be great if the editors could re-release this one without the music, would have given it 5 stars across the board in that case.
Suspenseful, unpredictable, riveting.
You never knew what was coming next.
I think that the author almost always does the best job reading the books because they know the characters like no one else.
Content of the story was a little dissapointing considering it is Stephen King's work. STill a great story, but wasn't as.......meaty/solid as others.
A little below his other works
Performance was wonderful. Stephen King reading his books works out to the best imho
A different narrator
Nope, love this genre just can't stand that man's awful accent. Love stephen king. love his other audio books. This was awful.
Nothing will ever compare to the written word. but this is an excelent performance.
Leland Gaunt is by far one of the most memorable characters.
Professional Escapist and Self-Help Junkie. I have a background in the classics, but a love for fantasy, horror and science fiction
Uncle Stevie was weaving his manic magic this one! This is a special treat to the lovers of Ka and all it's little connections in time and place. The performance was top notch and kept the headphones glued to my ears!
Lots of the reviews bash the music this story has. I must say it is a little weird, but isn't that what we love about King. Its odd, but it actually enhances the creepy feel of the story at times. If the reviews about the music are keeping you from getting this, go ahead and buy it... it does not take anything away from the story. It actually adds to it. Also, king has an unusual voice but it grows on you very quickly. I wish he narrated all of his stories, he is much better than the pretentious over-acted narrators of many audio books.
