"I liked it!"
This is my first Pendergast novel. I wasn’t too sure about getting it, I had it on my wish list, but I found it on sale at a price I couldn’t say no too. What a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed the story. There are few errors with Pendergast’s choice of weapons but its fiction so does that make it okay? Yes. The book was fun to listen too. That’s exactly what I wanted and needed, something fun, stimulating and imaginative. Good job. I’m looking forward to reading Reliquary. I’ve been looking for a new author for whose works to explore. Look’s like Preston and Child will provide satisfaction to my quest for distraction.
"Brilliant book."
This book would have to be one of the most gripping stories I have listened to. Right from the very start it had me wanting to hear more. The Narrator did a spectacular job telling the story, the voices and affects he used really drew me in and had me on the edge of my seat. I cant wait to hear the sequel.
"I love the beast on the loose!"
This pretty much had every thing except romance, oh and sex. But still great fun. And the best part was the serial killer/beast on the loose.
"Love the Pendergast novels"
This is a great book. Well written, Creative, Interesting, good monster story, too. I love the Pendergast novels. He doesn't hold center stage in this one as he does in the later ones. The narrator is good but no one can top the narrator, Rene Auberjois (Sp?), who does the other 10 or so Pendergast novels. I highly reccomend almost any of them. Excellent books.
"A Struggle To Finish"
I brought this during a $5 sale, thank God. Positively awful!! The narration is horrible on my end. It sounds like it was electronically spliced together in sections. There are quite few words that are completely unintelligible. I thought maybe it was just my recording of it onto a CD but I also listened with my IPod and got the same results. The story holds no interest for me whatsoever. I will NOT keep up with this series.
"Wheelchair cluelessness"
One of the main characters is a brilliant scientist who has done expeditions in his wheelchair, who has full use of his arms and a very strong grip, all noted in the prose. So why does he suddenly need another character to push him around? This and other nonsense about wheelchair use was annoying. A little bit of research, a few chats with folks who use wheelchairs, and maybe the authors would not be so clueless. Sadly, too few readers will even notice the ableist cliches ("wheelchair-bound", "iron prison", etc.) or the unexamined assumptions that underlie them.
The story itself is pretty silly, but a competent monster tale, good fluff as a soundtrack to chores. The reader, David Colacci, is reliable. Like a good mechanic, he knows his trade, cares enough to research pronunciation of uncommon and technical terms.
Say something about myself! I'm 66 with poor vision and HANDICAPPED,I save all my actual reading for my bible. My pleasure is at AUDIBLE!
"I DELETED THIS BOOK"
THERE WAS FAR A TOO MUCH PROFANITY I DONT KNEED THAT KIND OF LANGUAGE TO ENJOY THE STORY LINE
"could not stop listening"
Very good. I love to get lost in a story that takes me out of "my world" into a world that is far out and exciting. This book does it. You have to read the sequel 'Reliquary. What a surprise!
Love having someone read me a story. Fires in the hearth, rain on the roof, sunny days and surf. Good friends, good food and J S Bach.
"light listening"
a bit of escapist nonsense with a quirky end.
This is a light monster 'thriller'. The only thing I pondered upon was 'How thick are the walls in Sydney Museum?'
I imagine the authors had some fun writing the story. David Colacci read well.
All up not worth a credit when there are so many excellent listens available through Audible.
