Engaging first few chapters but the story really got lost in a confusing path of angles and turns that never really came together.
The big build up to the ending fell flat when a new twist was added to close out the story.
As a DOD aircraft accident investigator I found this book so compelling that I finished it in one day. Great storyline, well read, factually accurate and easy to follow.
There was nothing that I didn't like about this book. I wish I could forget it all and have the experience of listening to it all over tomorrow.
I really haven't listened to many legal thrillers but I'm hooked now. It was just the right amount of suspense, action and intelligent intrigue.
My first by this narrator but not my last. He was perfect as the protagonist.
I was hooked from the first page and it never let up.
The only thing I wished for were about 3 more chapters to expound on the ending a little more. It was all great but it ended very abruptly for my taste.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
Huston is a master storyteller, often combining political suspense with fast-paced courtroom drama. His latest thriller is also his best. It grabs the reader from the first word and does not let up. On the first page the President's helicopter, Marine One, crashes and kills the President and everyone else on board. Attorney Mike Nolan, a reserve Marine helicopter pilot himself, is hired to represent the French manufacturer of the helicopter in a criminal investigation and a wrongful death lawsuit by the First Lady. Nolan knows that in order to prevail, he must find out what caused the helicopter to crash and why the President chose to fly to Camp David in a horrible storm.
Huston's bio says he is an aviation attorney in real life; he clearly is an expert on aviation and litigation. He uses his expertise to tell a brilliant story, filled with political intrigue, suspense and excellent courtroom drama. Once I started reading this outstanding book, I could not put it down. It is a sophisticated thriller that stands above others in this genre. I strongly recommend it.
Joe Barrett was outstanding with the delivery of the story
I gave this 4 stars because it was a very good book but took a long time to get there, however it was good enough to keep me around till it did get exciting. Bravo!
It should have been one third as long as the repetition was agonizing. I almost gave up but the ending which was the last 15 minutes was wonderful. The main character, a lawyer, was aggravatingly naïve and put himself and all of his assistance in grave danger. Not believable that anyone of his caliber would do so.
I have listen to about 20 audiobooks so far about 5 of which were fiction. I would rate this audiobook’s storyline and performance the 2nd best audiobook that I have listened to.
I am a huge fan court room and political drama TV Shows (Boston Legal, The West Wing, The Practice, etc.) the fact that this audiobook had both was what kept me on the edge of my seat.
I have not listened to any of Joe Barrett’s other performances before but I would listen to him again.
I would have listened to this book in one sitting if I had the time.
I couldn't put it down. The story is amazing and the narration adds to it immensely. I never read a legal thriller before but this is just as interesting as any other fiction thriller on the market.
I enjoy stories and films about aviation and this one didn't disappoint. Great story.
It kept me listening. I tend to listen to books at night on my IPAD when I'm trying to fall asleep. This book didn't help me sleep because it kept my interest from start to finish.
The lawyers for the insurance defendants were brilliant.
It didn't make me laugh or cry. What it did do was hold my interest for periods longer than I care to admit.
An absolutely excellent read for anyone that has an interest in Aviation. Highly recommended.
