Its really not dark or depressing or invigorating, its predictable and uninspiring.
There's a woman, who used to be promiscuous, in a very mundane way, but isn't any more. Hasn't had sex in 3 years, dresses like a librarian. Besides self imposed abstinence she is otherwise perfectly well adjusted and very successful. The issues she does have make her every man's dream date. She never worries if he'll call. She doesn't ask for gifts, but accepts them demurely. She thinks he should only call for sex and she should leave when its over. She avoids other men like the plague (except when her beaux approves and encourages her. Even then the threesome is a very tender scene) She is shy and feminine, reasonable, successful, independent and just insecure enough to make a man feel good about comforting her. She's beautiful and has a perfect body, but only shows it off to him.
He is every woman's dream date, concerned and caring without being jealous or overbearing, knows exactly what to say and when, tall dark handsome and wealthy. He and goes out of his way to make her feel wanted and beautiful etc, is always on time and takes her to the most exclusive places where he even buys the dress and can't wait to introdce her to everyone. When they are intimate, he always asks her to stay the night.
Everyone mentions the sexual abuse in their ratings, but its not primary. Even the abuser is perfect becasue the guy offed himself years before over his guilt.
Its your average (or less) romance novel except for more explicit sex. If finding a box full of no-name romance novels for a penny a piece at a yard sale is your idea of hitting the jackpot, you might enjoy this. In short: Almost perfect girl- who would be perfect if it weren't for a tragedy as a teenager- meets perfect boy, they fall in love, but don't admit it. Finally they tell each other and live happily ever after. Bleh!
The lead female character's role in the plot was a bit irritating. Many charactors intertwined from the other Megan Hart books. Narrorator was not up to par with the male voices.
I listened to this during a long car trip and felt like I'd just listened to an X-rated story. Every fantasy and situation the author could come up with is on display in this book. That said, it did have a story-line. I didn't finish it to find out how it ended...I lost interest.
I enjoyed everything about this book except the narrator's poor try at a male voice...raspy. Not only was this book hot but it had a decent story line too.
This is a great read all around. If you get it because you want to hear the naughty bits...it will deliver...but there is a good story line too...and an interesting one at that.
This was my first erotica book and I was truly pleased! I found myself turning down the volume on my MP3 player at the steamy parts for fear that someone would hear. I would recommed this one to everyone within the sound of my voice, you will not be let down!!
Bravo to Megan Hart. This is an excellent book. I had a hard time putting my player down. El is a great character and someone I found myself yelling at as well as rooting for.
I recommend this book to all who have had abuse in their lives. I also recommend this book to anyone who wants a different kind of story.
