The writing for this series really took a dive after the last book. Spare yourself the Misery of listening to the rest of this series.
I have listened to all the books up to this one, and felt so compelled to get it just to see what happened next. But I think that I could have lived with out some parts of this book. Also, I find it to be a little short compared with the last ones... maybe that is why I felt this book was lacking something that I just can't quite put my finger on. Still all in all a good book to listen to, even if it's a little anticlimactic.
I love this series. Each book I hang on every word and savor the story. This book however, was the first one I found myself wishing it would end so I could move on to the final one. Good book, but my least favorite of the group.
5 stars because I finished it and truely felt something.
Susannah's character in greater depth.
A great story.
The story continues and it just leaves you wanting more.
I have read every book in the DT series now. I can honestly say this one is a good one although a bit on the low action side. One of the things that made this book series exciting were the big fight scenes in every one of the books. Unfortunately this one has a lack of such a scene and almost seams like the action parts of this book were "gotten out of the way" in order to concentrate on other elements of the story. This wasn't the best book by far in the series, but all in all it was ok by DT standards. If you think about putting down the series after this one you will be really missing out on a lot of good material for the ending.
This 'chapter' of the series is less interesting than others. There is some good action, but it is a much more predictable straight-forward story, no real twists or new insights. What I did enjoy (and hate) was the way in which King writes himself into the story as one of the pillars holding up the world from destruction. It's pretty funny.
Long awaited the continuation of this series. Felt it was a little drawn out, (but it's King). Find that the travel through the different worlds is not as fun as previous in this series or as in the Talisman. Still think the series is a must for King fans.
Character development in the Tower series is always good, but with this one, Mr. King has outdone himself. You feel for all the characters. Can you imagine what Mia's centuries must have been like, the lonliness that brought her to this impasse? The deep frustration of Susanna and of Detta, travellers through the darkness, as their universe twists around them.
I feel like I am coming to know Mr. King much better through this series, and admire the person behind the books as much as I admire the books. Yes, there are some things I would change about the book - but who sees and feels and lives with his characters more than the author? This is HIS vision, children, and as much as one may wish to twist and turn the plot to fit ones own idea of what the story "should" be to fit your own concept, it is true conceit to believe that only your own idea of plot and story line is the correct one, and worthy of print. Nasty comments are unproductive, like a fat man with a beer sitting on a couch making comments about what a loser an Olympic medalist is for winning only five medals instead of six. If you don't think the author did a good job, sit down, pull out your pencil, and start writing. When you have written your own opus, and had it published to stunning review, I shall bow to your opinions. Until then, state your concerns clearly and precisely, in a linguistically correct manner, with reference to your exact complaints, in order that we may have a true conversation regarding both the literary accomplishments and shortcomings of the novel and the series.
Listening to this series gives the story line a depth and richness that is even better than the voices which I created in my own head as I read. Bravo! I look forward to the final book in the series, but I must get to work to finish my thesis before then - I admit to spending too many hours listening, and not enough writing during this story!
