Yes, The Stephanie Plum series is semi-formulaic, but it is a formula that works. I like that Stephanie is becoming a little better at her job, still falls for Lula's unwitting traps, still loves two men, still likes birthday cake and still steps in it all the time. Familiarity can be comforting. Janet Evanovich introduced some fun new characters this time and I enjoyed the ride.
I started out as a big fan of Janet Evanovich's books and got a big kick out of the first few I read. However, they're all basically the same plot with a few variations over and over and over again. Good if all you want is a little mindless entertainment, but there's not much originality in this series. This Plum is definitely past its expiration date.
Fearless 14 was a good book. Very typical of the others in the series. This is the first book of the Stephanie Plum series that I listened to instead of reading. The narrator does a good job but since I have read the other 13, the voice I have for the characters is different than the narrators so that was distracting for me. Noting new here but still a good listen.
Sorry, but as a fan of the previous Plum novels I have to say this is the weakest so far. Although well read, the plot was formulaic, weak, and plodding - the real storyline didn't emerge until the book was almost half over! There were several funny moments, but overall it felt like a series of set pieces rather than a cohesive novel. Let's hope 15 is better.
This is the first "Plum" book that I have been a little dissapointed in. I have read all of the series and have many audio books from the series. This is the first time I have been dissapointed in the book. Usually these books keep me laughing and trying to figure out who Stephanie will end up with. 14 just did not cut it.
I felt there was not enough of my favorite characters. Ranger has a very small part and Grandma M. doesn't cause a lot problems in this one.
It was cute and funny. But I was hoping for more action between stephanie and ranger. I'm really hoping she ends up with ranger. I also have read all the plum series. my favors are: 3 to get deadly - 12 sharp and including all the in-between stories. I'm waiting for plum spooky and number 15. however, I still would pay this one. It's part of the series and like I stated it has funny parts and it has a cute little monkey named carl. And the country singer gives ranger a run for his money!!!!
I've "read" One through Fourteen and the between the numbers books, all were so entertaining and fun I've read them all multiple times!
Can't wait 'til Fifteen or a new between the numbers book becomes available.
