I forgot how much I apprciated the writings of Dickens. Mr. Muller is a masterful narrator!
The ups and downs of Pip. His epiphanies and how they change his life.
I have hundreds of titles in my audible library and many more from the local library. This book stands above all others. As long as human society exists this topic will have relevance, and should be remembered. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Here we have someone who tried to do right and was imprisoned by those in power to keep themselves in power. Then later when freed the same person fights to free another who is condemned just because he's related to someone. Another gentlemen his 'twin' as he's called steps in to save him. The aristocrats think the whole thing is just marvelous while waiting to die. They truly believe that they will be save. This story has some great lessons and if fits in with the 'scarlet pumpernickel.'
the narration is very fast, Frank Muller has a pleasent voice but I found it hard to enjoy the story. I didn't have time to adjust to all the twists and turns of the story.
Slow down give the listener time to enjoy the story and get to know the characters better.
I read this book in the past, in my younger days, so I was familiar with the story.
I enjoyed the narrator and also liked the story. I had forgotten how long this wonderful story takes to read.
My compliments to Audible.com for putting this book in their library.
Muller narration captures Dickens characters expertly, particularly in Two Cities when he is called to use French and English accents. Dickens stories and his commentary on the human condition is classic mastery.
I think this particular recording needs to be re-recorded. By today's standards, it is rustic and hard to hear clearly in some places. Other than that, it is just the same as I remember it from high school. Like the Heart of Darkness by Conrad, it is hard to get through because of the bleakness of the era in which the story takes place, yet it is a time that should never be forgotten. That's why this book should never be forgotten. It was written in a time much closer to the actual events and presents a clearer picture because of it. I'm still glad I bought it.
Loved this book and the narrator was fantastic! I decided to listen to some classic novels and this is one of the ones I chose and it was amazing! Never knew much about Charles Dickens but now I'm a huge fan.
Daily commuter relying on Audible to keep awake. I need excitement! If something crazy doesn't happen in the first 20 mins I'm done!
I never get tired of this story. One to listen to over and over.
