The story was alright, but the female character comes across so whiny. The narrator did not help. His female voice pulls you right out of the story.
would like to think i would like the book better if i read it myself, but honestly i will never be able to get the narrators voice out of my head. He was fine as the guy even though i found his accent inconsistent (sometimes he sounded more deep south than Scottish.) But when he read the female character's parts, it was just plain bad. Dont waste your credits. I thought the others were exagerating- they werent. It is that bad.
The Highlander series has extremely entertaining plots and lends itself well to the audio book format. The narrator is very good, but needs work on his female voices.
The story had lots of gaps in bringing the fantasy world to fully believable life. The male narrator's attempt at all the female voices was horrible. This includes how he did the heroine which made me start to dislike her just because of his grating falsetto. This was a disappointment.
Moning grows into a laudable romance/fantasy author with this effort, and continues to improve with later novels.
Reading is a must-have ESCAPE...
Having read and enjoyed Moning's ENTIRE Highlander series, I think it's fair to say that this one really left me wanting. Moning's spin on the time traveling modern woman into the medieval past in Book 3 starts off most innovative. Highlander's Touch (Book 3) and Kiss of the Highlander (Book 4) were the MOST creative of the series in terms of setting up the story. The first half of ...Touch crafted the romantic chemistry between the characters quite smoothly. That said, the last three or four chapters were weak at best. It was as if it's conclusion was propelled/forced by a publishing deadline. The description, language, and basis of the story's ending falls very short. However, Touch still should get four stars for the majority of the story is truly enjoyable.
Gigante's performance was, as in the rest of the series, impeccable. Like other reviewers have mentioned, his interpretation for male characters in fabulous. It's clear that he does his best with female voices.
Powerful, breath taking Romance, Love to visualize the story. Excellent narrator! Begs you for more! Can't wait for the next book!
I love to read all genres of books, but love my historical romances!!!
I'm so addicted to this series "Highlander" that I probably will listen to them all again!! Love the narrator and his great sounding voice!!
I've read Moning's books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them, and thought I'd listen to the audio version. I found the narrator a poor choice for this particular series. Every time he narrated for the woman's voice, it sounded falsetto and it was amusing -- and I found it hard to get lost in the book when I kept picturing a man with a falsetto voice instead of a woman for the heroine. The Scottish accents were off, as well. I tried--I really did. Bought two more in this series, but just can't enjoy the stories with this particular narrator. I'll stick to the book versions of this one, rather than purchase any more audio versions.
