This audio book is engaging, pulling you in and making you laugh at unexpected times, I drive for a living and became so engrossed in this book that when I was done with work for the day I didn't want to stop listening, Susan Bennett did an amazing job on this book and the other two in the series. she brought life to each character.
Christopher Moore's books have been recommended to me over and over, but I've never been able to get past page 50 or so of any of the print editions. I bought this on sale and decided to give it a try in the spirit of the Halloween season. I really came to like the characters, and the Emperor and his Men are a hoot.
Well worth a listen!
When I say suprising, not because this author is not talented, I say suprising because I have had such a hard time finding vampire books that are new and not just vampire hunter books. And I am so sick of those. The Bloodsucking Friends books are funny, interesting, new and I totally enjoyed the sarcastic humor of the characters. Each book focuses on a different character in the story and they are definitely worth reading.
Like the other reviewers have said, this book is thoroughly entertaining, funny and written with some wonderful characters. I am definitely going to listen to the next two books in the series and I wish there were more ala Charlaine Harris' series.
I loved Jodi and Tommy and the gang of Animals! And the Emperor...fun!
Also, I really enjoyed Susan Bennett's reading---the perfect blend of wit, sarcasm and feelings.
like twilight but the characters actually behave in a logical way given the circumstances. I'm not saying they do what I'd do or what they should, but at least you aren't cringing at what they are doing every step of they way.
The writing is funny and has a logic or sense of its own. The characters are very unique and likable, too. I wanted to know what would happen to them and I wanted it to be good. I wanted to meet more of the people Moore created. (Also, I LOVE that I had just learned about the real-life Emperor of San Francisco before I listened to this! He was real!)
I loved Fool and Lamb and didn't love Fluke. This is much more of the first persuasion. The narrator was great most of the time but I couldn't handle her Fargo/UP accent for the family from Indiana (just a midwesterner's peeve).
I chose this book because I had enjoyed to other books by Christopher Moore, A Dirty Job and Lamb. This book is about a vampire living in San Francisco and how she survives. When I told someone that I was listening to a book about vampires they rolled their eyes because of the current vampire craze sweeping our country. But, this is a comedy and not a drama or horror story like many other books, movies and TV shows out there. Moore writes with a dark humor that also manages to shed some light on social norms or ideas in a thought provoking way. While this book was not my favorite of the ones that I have read, I had a lot of fun listening to the story as the narrator did a great job giving a lot of personality to all of the characters. Since this is the first in a trilogy, I will very likely continue on and listen to the other two in the series but not after I get through some other books first.
Hi I am a Wife and loving Mother. I listen to books and podcasts on a regular basis, and am always looking for reviews and info on new authors and great reads. Happy reading all!!!
Well This book is good i like the characters and overall all three are worth the read. Bloodsucking fiends,You suck and Bite Me. Not my overall favorite from Christopher moore. A Dirty Job on the other hand mad me laugh out loud. If you have not read it do so now. I don't usually re-read books but a dirty job i'v read three times. The vampire serious is worth getting too.
Very funny with memorable characters. Not a masterpiece. The language and narrative does very little to challenge the reader. I got a bit of a Dan Brown feeling when listening to it. If this is meant as a book for youths then it is dead on.
The audio is very good. The characters have very good voices and they can be visualized from the narrator alone.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for an easy and funny story.
High Brow Buyer
I loved this book - laugh out loud funny, with quirky characters and enough twist and turns to keep you listening. The only thing I didn't like about the book is the title - what an embarrassing thing for others to see you listening to on your iphone....
