Favorite author: Alexander McCall Smith Favorite narrator: Gerard Doyle Favorite listen : Burton and Swinburne Trilogy
Top 5. I listen to #1 ladies detective and thought I would try it. It's hilarious
It is a farce. Very funny. For someone with so many doctorates Her is not very smart
No I haven't heard any others but this was great.
The most memorable character of course was the sausage dog. Hilarious that Von Igelveld was mistaken for a specialist in sausage dogs considering his feelings for them. Did I mention it was hilarious
I am going to try all the Alexander McCall smith's series do far they are thoroughly enjoyable
I loved his other books, this was sorry
the whole story line was just wrong
not to have been written in the first place
a waste of time and money.
There wasn't enough of a story line to keep my interest. And it wasn't very believable.
I've listened to other books by this author and enjoyed them, so I would try one of his books again.
There was nothing wrong with the narrator just the story line.
This book is a farce-novel: Normal situations that quickly evolve in a farce. If you enjoy this type of humor, then it's a great listen. Narrator was good, not great but nothing disturbing.
Proper, straight, amusing
When the main character was mistaken for a vet
The end was nifty
Not really. I was unexpectantly amused
I loved this story by Alexander McCall Smith. The main character is hilarious -- so pompous and full of himself, but he gets taken down a peg every now and then. All the other characters are great, too. The story is inventive, has a degree of complexity, holds your attention, and is amusing.
Paul Hecht was PERFECT as a reader! He did all the voices cleverly, he read clearly and caught the mood of the book completely. I enjoyed his reading of all three books in this series. I'm just sorry the series is complete. I think it's McCall Smith at his very best.
Oh my! First, Paul Hecht is marvelous and fully understands the foibles of these delightful characters. Alexander McCall Smith has obviously drawn on his life-experience and has created fully illustrated individuals so outrageous and hilarious... one is drawn to listen to their finer points over and over. I have listened to this book many times. I have recommended it to many people and have been amazed at the few who just didn't "get it." If you "get it" you'll love it! Highly recommend it and hope for many more sequels!
Just wasn't interesting to me
The story line
It was OK
I really couldn't finish the book
maybe someone who hates dogs. but likes boring stuffy people
no. paul's a good reader
Everyone but the sausage dog!!
the title is misleading! false advertising! I was robbed! And what they did to that poor little dachshund was horrible. anyone who thinks that was humorous is sick and perverted!!
