This was originally a short story and should have stayed that way. The idea is a good one, but it drags in the middle and has a piece of the story line that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the ultimate plot. It reads as what it is, a good short story that was made into a novel without adding any substance.
Amazing book with great characters and a fast pace that still has details and depth. The story is orginal and unfolds in just the right ways so it's logical but not predictable. The audio is excellent with multiple actors doing the voices with feeling and emotion that sound authentic and not overplayed or distracting. Perfect or as close as it gets. I've got 2 hours left but I just bought the next in the series.
This is the comprehensive tale of a young man. A young man with the weight of the world on his shoulders at the tender age of 6. I embraced this book from the first chapter and couldn't let go until it was done. I am relieved to see that the story did not end and there are several other books to continue this outstanding saga. By all means read/listen "Ender's Game".
As a traveling PC Tech, I do a lot of driving. That is why I started listening to audio books. I have listened to a lot of audio books, and this is very high on my list of favorites. This book was very well detailed, and kept me interested. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series.
I read the book a while ago but was blown away for a second time. This is the first audible book i've listened to and it really impressed me. The voices had believable variation and it was read at a suitable pace. The story itself is unbeatable in depth and imagination. Card even manages to create a sense of understanding and empathy with the young genius destined to save mankind from the insect-like 'buggers'. Nice plot twists, point of view changes and some truely original and thought-provoking material. This book is everything that sci-fi should be.
This first novel from the "Enderverse" is superb. Card's excellence lies in creating characters with such depth it draws you into the rest of the story. A great story, enhanced by a fine cast of readers to help you follow along without missing a beat.
