Johanna Parker does excellent narration. She brings Sookie and the other characters to life (ha) wonderfully. I'm from the South and a lot of times when people try to imitate a Southern accent it just ends up sounding hokey, but she sounds "normal" to me.
Charlaine Harris blends mystery, intrigue, and romance together to draw you in and get you invested in the characters.
Although I still think it's funny how the main character sleeps with everyone and constantly thinks about sex (like all women do.....right.), Ms. Harris's writing has gotten a bit better with this book. A few interesting subplots, wonderfully unlikeable characters....I listen to this series because the reader is fabulous and the main character, although fakely humble about her looks, has some great lines. Easy mindless listening makes for great (and safer) commuting! Recommended.
I really enjoyed these books. I listen to this series while I work. They are easy to listen to and entertaining enough to help me through a repetitive job. I would recommend and listened to the whole series.
I wouldn't mind meeting Quinn myself, violet pansy eyes and all. Once again the writer held my interest throughout. And Bill, who knew?
These Sookie Stackhouse stories are all so good that they would be enjoyed read alone or read aloud by anyone - but Johanna Parker does a spectacular job, it is uncanny how well she does the voices, and I hope she never stops narrating the Sookie books (whenever the next book finally comes out!) If I even saw one that Johanna didn't narrate, I would probably read it - her voice has made such a difference and is part of why i can't put the headphones down! Get EVERY one of these Sookie books - you won't regret it!
What I like about this series is each book distinctly changes the direction of Sookie's life and so every book is interesting because different things happen. I've read/listened to books that were twice as long as this one and the storyline has barely moved along and nothing changes too much and I find that boring. So Charlaine Harris really moves the storyline along well and keeps me interested. The Sookie books are always an enjoyable listen - the action parts keep you listening far longer then you plan to because you look forward to what's going to happen next.
Great narration and interesting story. I really enjoyed this book. I like the addition of Quinn and enjoy reading about Sookie being out of Bon Temps in a few of the books. This is probably my 4th favorite book in the series.
I love these books! I can't wait to get my new credits so I listen to some more. They are especially interesting to me because I live in the area she writes about. All of the towns, cities, and places are so familiar, and I grew up hearing many of the colloqualisms Sookie uses. Sookie is a true southern gal!
