YES! This book was hilarious!
He complains that we're listening and that he doesn't understand why anyone would listen to a book rather than read it but then he adds so much while reading it. There are guests and asides and even a song added! And the part with Jon Benjamin?! C'mon, kill me now! My life is complete!
This is actually the first audiobook I finished and it both hilarious and fun to listen to. His delivery is phenomenal and while I don't agree with all his points, he backs them up with valid information and reasoning.
Scientist, Atheist, Humanist, and Historian. I don't know everything, but I know enough to know if you're full of it!
David expresses the his thoughts so effortlessly that it saves me the time of using expletives myself!
David was fantastic!
David has other, hilarious, contributors to the reading of the book that one would totally miss if they were to read a paper copy.
This can't be right?!
I was expecting more humor but instead he just drags on and on about boring little anecdotal stuff. The first couple of chapters were funny and I was patting myself on the back for another good purchase. But then he ran out of material. The bulk of the book felt like he was just babbling into a recorder to fill up the rest of the book. Sure, anyone that writes a book like this is already a little self centered but he pushed right past that into totally self indulgent and self centered. I don't care about the little crap that is bouncing around in your head or the reason you do the things you do. I'm here for COMEDY and HUMOR. After about 1/3 of the book I honestly couldn't listen to him any more. And why in the world would you berate people for listening to the audiobook ON THE AUDIOBOOK?
Chalk up my second unfinished audible title. My mother told me if you cant say anything nice don't say anything at all so my review follows...
"I drink for a reason" is ...
If it was not so vengeful against other people
I do think he is funny sometimes and I do enjoy his voice. But as for things he has written no way in hell, he is just to bitter for me.
His voice is fine.
Some of the names he makes up did make me laugh a little
Just not really sure why he wrote this book other then to tell the world how much he hates Jim Belushi and anything that the rest of the world likes.
I think revising the content to remove his smarmy, know-it-all attitude on topics like U.S. culture, religion, attitudes and geography. Also, adding more funny material would have made it better. Or better yet, get a copy of Michael Ian Black's "My Custom Van".
I probably would not listen to anything by David again. I purchased the book and the audiobook.
I thought that maybe his performance would have made the audiobook funnier (it didn't). And I thought that maybe reading the material for myself would have made the book seem less smug, condescending and bitter (it didn't).
H. Jon Benjamin was much funnier in his reading of David's material.
I think I would have cut everything after the H. Jon Benjamin intro up until the ending.
There are some parts that are funny. But, his bitterness and snide attitude overshadowed the funny parts.
