If you've read " alive" and so think this isn't worth reading, your making a BIG mistake. If you think this book will just be depressing - your making a BIG mistake. If you think this will be a poorly written rehash of the story - again, mistake.
What this is, is one of the greatest story's of survival ever told - and Unlike "Alive" this book has been Written by the leader and savior of the group 30 yrs or so after the incident.
What kept coming up in my mind as I was reading this was how well it was written. This is such a remarkable almost unbelievable story! Finally being told by the leader of those remarkable band of brothers who endured the unendurable. Just incredible stuff. Highest rating!
I do not live in HOng Kong
this is a wonderful book. a little slow to start but amazing once it gets going. written by a man who knows a lot about life and death
I read the original factual account of the Andes story ("Alive" by Piers Paul Read) when I was a teenager and never forgot the story. As an adult revisiting the amaziing story of the survival of the 16 young men trapped in the Andes mountain was well worth my time. The essence of this book for me is that through time and healing, Nando Parrado has reflected on everything that happened in those mountains and turned his experience into a positive message from which the entire world can benefit.
This book is an amazing tale of survival. Even if you've seen the movie Alive you should still listen to this book. I thought the narrator did a great job as well. I can't really even think of anything negative to say about this book. Worth the download!
I loved this book! This is an amazing account of both tragedy and triumph as told by one of the survivors. I was captivated by the story from the beginning and found it difficult to stop listening to this audio production as I arrived at my job each morning or back home in the afternoon.
I could hardly put it down. It was an adventure with incredible character development. Perfect mix of survival details and the human development. I would love to hear Nando speak in person about this.
I have read 100+ books on Audible, and this is the one I have re-listened to the most. I keep it permanently on my iPod, and regularly listen to favourite passages, and especially to the interview with Nando Parrado where he explains the story of how he came to write the book after all these years.
The best fiction authors can't come close to matching this real-life story of survival and the life-long journey of self-discovery that results.
Trust all these 5-star reviews -- read the book! I promise you won't be disappointed.
I love this story. I have seen the movie Alive, read the book and now listened to Nando Parrado's book (one of the survivors) and this is the best of the three. This is a powerful story that provides the reader with perspective on their own life.
Even if you saw the movie or read the book Alive, which I did not, Miracle In The Andes is an emotionally wrenching and intellectually challenging literary event you will never forget. It is a story of both action and character. It will make you think about life, and death, and love, and God, all the greatest literary themes, as only the best literature can. Nando Parrado is someone we can all learn from. A joyously excellent and timeless read for both men and women, most highly recommended.
