Non-fiction, fiction--I read widely. Except bodice rippers. I'd rather pull my own eyelashes out than read romance. Avid, happy reader.
This is a thrilling story that you will have a difficult time putting down. I love nonfiction, and this is one of those true stories that reads like excellent fiction. Fascinating, fast-paced, great characters, terrific story--you wil not be disappointed with this book!
Oh--and PS--the interview with the book's author and two main characters is definitely worth listening to at the end.
Maybe, never read the print version
Discovering the identity of the mystery U-Boat
Yes, but that was not possible
Riveting - brings you into the world of Atlantic Wreck Divers
This book is outstanding! It is one of the best WWII stories I have have ever heard. Please get this audiobook. You will not be disappointed. The narrator is also great. There is a bonus interview with the two main characters at the end of the book that you also must hear.
Happily married father of 4 with 3 of the meanest Grandchildren in the US :) I am a paving Forman for a large construction company Alabama.
There are only 2 books that I have listened to more than once.. The Lion's Game... and Shadow Divers. One Fiction and the Other Non Fiction. My Favorite 2 books and I have a about 285 in my library. With at least 1000 that I have read. 10 stars and 5 Thumbs up.
The story line was great... and taught me a fair amount about diving. It was full of suspense and had pretty good character development. The language used in the 'dialogue between friends' caught me off guard, but once I realized it had significant cursing and swearing... I realized it was a book for my ears only.
This book is simply the best audiobook that I can remember. It was engrossing, exciting and had me listening in every waking moment, right up to the end of the epilogue. I just wish that I could find more books of this caliber- it was superb! I recommend it to men, women, divers, non-divers, history buffs and non-history buffs, alike. I wouldn't have ever thought myself interested in WWII history but after following the story of these two men, I have found myself interested in learning more of U-boats and the personalities of those affected at the time. Also really interesting was the male closeness of the two main characters as they divulged the closeness of their friendship in a way not often done in a world that often scorns male intimacy. I found that very appealing and think that other women would as well. These men were brave on so many levels and I relished their story. Brilliantly written and the reading of it was nicely done!!!! Enjoy...
A simply outstanding, true audio-tale about the culture of deep sea diving that I knew so little about -- but now feel sort of like an expert: the characters are well developed, and the plot moves along well. A story of bravery, fear and also triumph. Well worth the Audible credit!
I have listened to hundreds of hours of audio books, spanning many genres and interests. This is one of the best ever. The topic was of interest to me anyway, but even so it is a gripping true story told in an incredibly rich and emotional way. The feeling of claustrophobia and danger is quite incredible - done in a way I never thought possible in written form. Excellent narration, great historical detail (though not too much if your not into it). An interview with the two main "characters" is also worth a listen at the end. If you listen to one book this year - do yourself a favour and make it this one!
