I enjoyed every minute of this story -the way the story was revealed, the way the reader never knows more than the main character, I immensely enjoyed the witty dialogue and turns of phrase. I am please to discover this new writer. I did not enjoy the narrator so much, if found him shrill and annoying; not enough texture to his performance.
This was a terrific book. The author did an excellent job developing the characters and the storyline was unique. He added just the right amount of humor and humility. This is definitely one of the best books I've listened to in a long time. Scott Brick was awesome as usual.
I live in Michigan and have been a member of auible since it's onset. Hobbies are photography and writing...I am in the process of formatting my first novel for kindle and I hope everyone will read it. I LOVE AUDIBLE and listen to at least 3 unabridged books a month. !
One of the best listens on audible I've ever heard. And Scott Brick is at his best .
i found this book to be a difficult read. i thought the narration was tedious and the story very implausible and boring. would not recommend.
Fantastic suspense! Wonderful writing and character development. The ending will not disappoint! Great twists.
I like Gregg Hurwitz. He comes up with the most unbelievable plots...but keeps you entertained and hooked. Scott Brick helps sustain the momentum. At the end, yes, the explanation for the mystery proves to be a tad too farfetched, but I don't care. I will keep listening to his novels.
This book is depressing even for a crime thriller, the main character just went thud for me despite Scott Brick (and I usually like Brick a lot) and his OVER-narration; he just goes way too far here, it is performance art gone crazy. Unless you love the writer, and even if you do, THINK TWICE.
this is the kind of book I usually get into right away. It is written in a compfortable and well know area for noir thrillers--LA.
And I think the author had a compelling story here but it is comletely undone for me by the ever-overwrought reading of Scott Brick. I wish Mr. Brick could learn to just say things like a normal person, not a man under extreme stress every second of his life.I cannot sustain interest when so much at stake ALL of the time, even small things. Mr. Brick can do the occasional brilliant personification of a character, so I realize he has talent, but I wish he wouldn't feel it neccessary to show-boat all the time.
This may be my last Scott Brick book for a while. Too bad, he read a lot of good ones.
This book has been a very enjoyable listen every time I hear it. If I'm bored or can't find any new books to buy that sparks my interest, "The Crime Writter" is one of the top 20 books I turn to as a dependable, interesting listen.
I've read two of Gregg Hurwitz's books and liked them very much so I didn't hesitate to snatch this one up. I just want him to get on with the story. Too much rambling, not enough action and I'm doubting I will ever finish listening to it.
With the other books being 9s, this would rate about a 4.
Yes, very slow.
No. I'm actually a little over 1/2 way through and will probably just give up.
