I loved this book. The plotting was cleverly handled. The narrator was easy to listen to and managed to convey the different characters so well that you were able to recognize who they were quite easily. It is a long book and I thought it might drag a bit from time to time but it never did. I finished it last night and will miss the characters, it was that good.
This was one of the worst books I have ever listened to. many times I would find myself not paying attention for spans of up to 20 mins. I was shocked to see it had so many good reviews, I usually agree with the majority, but this was too slow and not very interesting.
The Thirteenth Tale is a story that really benefits from being read aloud. The two narrators help bring bring the two primary female characters to life. At times the subplots can seem to wonder, but trust the author to bring everything to a satisfying and cogent conclusion.
This is the first book in a very long time that I've found to be an original story. After reading many detective novels and fantasy books, as well as catching up on some classics, I was truly delighted by a plain old good tale.
The characters were captivating, the plot was intriguing, and the reading was spot-on.
I enjoyed this immensely. Well-written, interesting plot, likeable and interesting characters. A gothic feel and good substance.
wonderfully written and narrated. it builds slowly and then your realize you don't want to stop listening. great book. highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality fiction.
This book was beautifully written and the narration was mesmerizing and so perfect for this novel. If you only listen to one book this year, this should be it.
I am a busy executive who has a passion for reading, mostly novels. This passion was passed down to me (and my brother) by my father who was never without a book in his hand. I regularly have two or three books going at the same time..always have audible books in my ear during long car rides in Los Angeles.
I have recommended this book to everyone I know. It is a treat to discover such a gifted new talent in the literary world. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Setterfield does next. If I ever wanted to be an author, this is the kind of author I would want to be
