This is another great yarn from one of my favorite authors, I would say his best in awhile. The reader was fantastic, the suspense was awesome.
Overly long but clever. I might rate it higher if I had not read many other King books which had similar themes and characters.
I have come to appreciate the thrilling twists and turns of Stephen King. This book does not disappoint one of that expectation. I loved the detailed descriptions of the scenes and feelings of the hero. Just when you think you know where it is going, it changes. Don't think you will figure out the end too early and what fun to have all the loose ends weave into a fantastic fabric of story.
This is a very long book with lots of good things about it such as character development and narration, but it just fell apart for me in the final third--too way out there and not very believable or scarey, for that matter. Very disappointing.
Though I typically shy away from King, I really enjoyed this book. Characters are very compelling and the story has some good twists. Caution to those that are sensitive to explicit language.
I just love this book, the visuals, the interspections, the interactions between characters, it is so wonderful - keep up the good work Mr. King.
I have been a fan of Stephen King since nearly the beginning of his career and admire his work. Not the horror elements, per se, but his ability to create such detailed characters that the reader can relate to and learn to care about. This is what I have always thought was lacking in most of his films---to ability to present characters that have depth; to make them likeable and multi-dimensional. FINALLY, I think he is back on his game with "Duma Key." I enjoyed this book much more than most of the books he has written since his personal accident. I am really thrilled that he has kept writing.
King paints his characters marvellously, all the while playing the emotional strings. I loved this book even though what some might see as a slow start is usually not my thing. I was almost dissappointed when the storyline went more traditionally Stephen King towards the end.
My brain gets bored easily when I am in a painting trance. In order to keep me sharply focused, I always have a book blaring in the background with the hopes that it will keep me so entertained, I will by dying to paint so that I can listen to it. Good books help me meet deadlines. This book made me want to paint day and night because it was so interesting. It kept me constantly wondering what would happen next. I highly recommend it.
