If you find yourself seriously drawn into first person narratives and aren't in a great mood to begin with - this is not the book for you.
The first 3/4 of the book are nothing but Bella's serious and debilitating depression. When reading a book, I'm always drawn into the characters. Even more with 1st person narratives. I found myself crying at the stupidest things right after listening to this book, things that would never bother me would make me sob.
Maybe if I had read the book, and therefore skimmed large sections of the depression parts (which are repeated over and over again), it wouldn't have been as bad. But it's so hard to skim an audio book.
In light of the reviews I've read for the last two books, I've decided not to buy them.
I could only stop listening when the pain in my ears from the volume of my MP3 Player became to unbearable to stand..this is after 3 days of four straight hours of listening - YES..IT IS THAT GOOD!!!!
I love these books - this one is my least favorite, but it's necessary to get to the next ones. But, I HATE HATE HATE this narrator! She's terrible. She doesn't have different voices for the characters, and she shows NO emotion. It's annoying. I wish they could have paid an actual narrator to do it. These books are huge! We need better narration.
After reading all four books in the Twilight series, I have to say that this is my least favorite. But like many things in life you have to get through it to get on to Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, the latter of which I believe to be the best book in the series. All in all I love these books and have become thoroughly addicted!
Certainly there have been many vampire stories and novels in the past, and certainly a fair number of these have involved romance between a vampire and a young female. Usually the vampire imposes imminent danger in the romantic relationship. This story puts a different spin on this idea and mixes in some Indian legends that spring to life and complicate the scenario. Bella is the young (18yr. old) female and Edward is her young vampire lover. This is a quick but compelling read.
Well I am definitely past my teens, but I simply could not put this book down. Great plot, kept me involved the entire time, I even loved the reader, I'm already through book 2 and ready for 3!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first audio book in this series - Twilight. But for whatever reason the narrator decided to affect accents while reading this book, and I found it simply unlistenable. I ended up purchasing the book instead and very much enjoyed the story - but stay away from the audiobook unless you're looking for a good laugh at how ridiculous the narrator is!
